Stuff in the loft - Trash or Treasure?!

Guys,

My folks are keen to empty their loft of all the stuff they don't need - realistically quite a bit of this is probably mine!

Im assuming most is due to the dump, but, some may be useful/valuable/wanted, just thought I'd canvas for opinions on here..

Mitsubishi Diamond 21 crt - man this thing was heavy, it was a mission getting it in there. Probably just obsolete and ready for tip.

Beano comics! - probably not mint condition, perhaps even a bit damp, late 80s early 90s

FHM magazine, probably mid-later 90s

Various Aiwa hifi bits (not separates).

So yeah my assumption is this is all for the tip.

Just as someone who has lived with a magazine collector for years- magazines are rarely worth listing unless for some reason they contain something 'rare' and are in mint condition.

Always worth a trawl through the ebay completed listings though before dumping anything, just make sure to look at sold and unsold items and ignore currently listed items .

The CRT TV may have a small value for the retro gamers out there.  Once down ensure it's well dried out / warm before testing.

I did wonder that about the monitor, it's a beast!

The magazines I suspected so, my sons 7, so I may see if the Beano (not fhm lol!) interests him!

The other thing you could consider once you have sorted a good B & M auction house, you would be surprised what they can sell on your behalf!

None of the ones I attend would touch magazines or an old CRT , maybe other things, if they think there’s any money at all in it might go.

Sounds like a few trips to the dump may be in store!

I'd emphasise that. Don't take boxes and boxes of jumbled up tat to an auction house. Give them clearly marked boxes and lists of items separately.

It's not been said but completed item search is your friend for this. If you're logged on to Ebay, click on "advanced" to the right of the search box. You'll then see a "completed items" box to search about halfway down the page. Put in any items you think may be valuable. A Mitsubishi CRT recently sold for £190! There are several listed at higher three figures. You can try similar searches on Amazon with anything with a barcode. There it will list any active items.

One thing I learned doing something similar with items I've never sold is that things you think might be worth something aren't and things that may be something you want to throw out straight away could be more unique/rare and worth something.

That's a good point, I used to do that when buying vinyl on ebay many moons ago.

Something about the monitor in the back of my mind just makes me think it's too good to trash. Best see if it works first!

I seem to recall we had to use a rope and a few people to get it on - seems it's about 30kg I believe, I think we put it on a joist, well if not we'd know about it by now nearly 20 years later!
