Octopus vs eon
Currently on octopus 15m fixed august 24 v1. With the news of the exclusive Eon fix to MSE, wondering whether it’s worth the switch. The comparison reckons I’ll save £75 a year after cashback, but hesitant due to octopus’s much better reputation.

I would not move for twenty pence a day. Not enough risk/reward.0

I’m currently on Agile but have been considering an EV tariff as recently charging has been expensive on Agile. The Eon Next Drive tariff is coming out cheaper for me when comparing with Octopus Go in the North West.
Eon Next Drive
Peak: 25.19p/kWh (07:00-00:00)
Off-peak: 6.7p/kWh (00:00-07:00)
Standing Charge: 52.04p/day
Octopus GoPeak: 26.84p/kWh (05:30-00:30)
Off-peak: 8.5p/kWh (00:30-05:30)
Standing Charge: 49.98p/day
You need to have a look at the unit rates and, using your usage, calculate what your actual savings could be to see if it’s worth the switch.
I’ve been with Octopus for a few years now but have found their customer service isn’t as good as it used to be, I don’t find their AI/Bot email responses to be helpful at all.
The property we last moved to was supplied by Eon Next before we moved over to Octopus again and I must admit at the time Eons customer service was excellent, emails answered within an hour or two and a phone call I made was answered within a minute.
Whilst Octopus offers innovative tariffs and good customer service I do think that they aren’t as good as they used to be and certainly aren’t offering the most competitive pricing anymore.0 -
@Reed_Richards is a happy EON customer on the Next Drive EV tariff. He agrees that it's cheaper than Go and (on paper) Intelligent Go.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.
2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 33MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.Not exactly back from my break, but dipping in and out of the forum.Ofgem cap table, Ofgem cap explainer. Even if it were to cost a pound more a day I'd not move from Octopus to Eon. I moved from Eon to Octopus in March last year and they're like night and day.
Eon couldn't even provide daily usage data reliably in their app, the odd day here and there but nothing useful, always some excuse that made no sense when I asked. Same meters immediately worked to provide half hourly data with Octopus.
Even worse was Eon's account management and customer service. Whereas Octopus trust me to manage my direct debit and keep an eye on my own balance, refund any excess when I ask them to. Eon insisted that I paid far more than I needed to and then took repeated emails to grudgingly give me a credit refund every spring, and then still wouldn't reduce my direct debit so same happened the next year. I've no idea why I stayed with them the few years that I did
Ed: Just remembered why, I was on a fixed tariff for most of that time through the peak of the high prices, I don't feel so daft now, but it was far far more stressful than it needed to be with Eon0 -

What are people’s thoughts?Currently my charges are- 22.7 and 65.37 for electric. 6.08 & 29.49 for gas.In comparison, the new e on fix is 21.27 and 59.9 for electric and 6.27 & 31.7 for gas.0 -
I'm staying with Octopus. While they do make mistakes, you can always get to speak to someone and get a resolution (eventually, mine took 12 months but they were happy to give me £200 compensation for 'inconvenience!).
I was with Eon when I first moved here. They are just a nightmare to get hold of, you never speak to the same person twice, you have to explain everything over and over ( Octopus appear to keep records of previous conversations, what a innovation!). Can't get anything done with Eon and when I left them they STILL kept sending me bills for months.
Not worth the hassle1 -
It's not just about energy costs. Eon customer service is appalling whereas Octopus is fantastic. I wouldn't want to touch Eon again with your bargepole. Give Eon a miss and do yourself a favour go/stay with Octopus.1

Bigger E difference N/W region.
O/P bear in mind under current rules after leaving Octopus minimum 12 months can return via £50 link, makes switch savings greater.

I gather they might have a reputation for being rubbish but from my experience perhaps they’ve turned that around although I could be wrong!1
