I have purchased a Samsung DU8008 TV. The instruction manual and anything I can find online is confusing as to how I pause and rewind live TV
I thought I would be able to plug in USB storage I tried a 36gb flash drive and this did not work.
From the manual it says:
For a USB device for recording, it is recommended to use the USB hard disk that supports USB 2.0 or later and 5,400 rpm or higher. However, RAID-type USB hard drives are not supported. • USB memory is not supported.
I also tried an old hard disk 125gb and this did not work either.
Any ideas?

I formatted it on a computer and the TV did not request a format. Should it be done on the tv, not sure how I would do that?oldernonethewiser said:Does the hard disc meet their specs?Did you have to format it when plugged into the TV?

what file system did you format it as and does the tv support this?
what is the max usb disc size supported?
does the Samsung DU8008 even support usb recording ? Certainly the user guide says about recording "This function may not be supported depending on the model or geographical area."0 -
There's a manual here that seems a bit generic but I suppose that's the way it is these days.According to this manual you cannot record from anything other than Freeview. So the first question has to be, you're not trying to record from an app or an external device?Drive wise a quick Google seems to suggest externally powered USB drivers are preferred - the 3.5"/desktop drives, as opposed to the portable/mobile drives.Mention is made of 5400rpm - well that doesn't apply to USB flash devices and pretty much all mobile (mechanical) drives are 5400pm - desktop drives are usually 7200rpm.I'd probably suggest 36Gb (though I think you mean 32Gb!) is probably too small for any decent length of recording but the manual says it's fine until it drops below 500Mb - not that USB sticks are supported anyway.1

Yes I know is only be for live TV. I have tried an old usb drive 125gb but it may not be 2.0 and I do t know the speed.
I will have to buy something else. Was hoping there was someone who had the same tv who could confirm something that works before I purchase something.0 -
Have to check the obviousIf your device is 128Gb it'll almost be certainly USB 2 or possibly 3. USB 2 has been around 25 years...0

Samsung TV's are very fussy. Get a top quality branded USB stick it will work perfectly. I got a Sandisk after trying a few others that didn't work.1

The manual says
We recommend using a USB hard disk that supports USB 2.0 or later and 5,400 rpm or higher. Please note that RAID-type USB hard drives and USB memory are not supported.
That's what made me think I can't use a USB stick. Not sure what they mean by USB memory.
Is yours just a USB stick? what size and type?
I'm not tech savvy!0
