Transitional Protection on Universal Credit advice pless

Hi all I’m new to this.
Can anybody please advise me on if I’m going to lose the Transitional Protection on my UC claim as Universal Credit advisors (work coaches) are absolutely useless with giving me any info on this. My son comes off my UC claim this August 2025 and I’ve written on my journal to ask the question and I’ve been told they don’t know but it *MIGHT* end the Transitional Protection as it’s a significant change! Yet nobody can confirm this for definite which is shocking considering that’s what UC advisers are there to do! I’m dreading it as it’s showing I’ll go from £1626 a month to £393 a month and I’m stressed to the max! I seriously don’t know how I will manage losing that much money in one go! It’s making me feel really unwell mentally.. Can anybody advise me please xx

A child turning 19 will mean you lose any child elements received for them but it will not cause you to lose your transitional element

The people you talk to at the Job Centre, and on your journal Are not UC advisers.   they are just Admin staff.   For benefits advice you need to talk to citizens advice or a similar organisation

@kaMelo I know I will lose his allowance and disability premium but it’s losing the TP that’s making me sick with worry as the advisor is saying it’s probably going to stop too as it’s a significant change but I’ve read a significant change where you become better off but I’ll be worse off as my benefits will reduce a lot not increase which I also read reduces the TP

Citizens Advice or another local organisation should be able to help

Your TP will not be lost because he's leaving full time education. If you or a partner are working and you have no other children on your claim and/or you haven't been through the work capability assessment and been found to have either LCW or LCWRA then the work allowance would also end. This would mean that any earnings received would reduce your UC by 55%.

@poppy12345 he’s staying in education probably for another year.. It is because he’s 19 in June that he apparently gets taken off my claim even though he’s staying in education.. I’m worried sick because I will lose a lot already when my son comes off my claim. I’m his sole carer as he’s disabled but if I then lose TP I won’t be able to survive on £398 a month as my bills are over £500 a month without food or keeping my car on the road and I can hardly walk without pain because I have fibromyalgia, bulging discs of the spine, osteoarthritis of the knees and bursitis of the hips.. I’m ill with worry and I rang citizens advice earlier as someone commented with that but even they were useless as they didn’t know and told me to ring another benefits number 😩

@poppy12345 Also I’m a single parent and I’m not working as I’m his full time carer.. It’s a huge struggle as I’m disabled and I’m on PIP and my son is on PIP too but we’re not on either LCWRA or LCW yet but I’m waiting am assessment for my son to be done which. Should be within the next month or so to hopefully get it put in place for when I have to claim his UC for him as I’m his appointee xx

Lots of families struggle when changing from dependant children to non dependant adults.

What elements do you get on your UC at the moment? And how much is the Transitional Protection?
