TV license

We have moved abroad and rented our house out and sent TV license the rental agreement etc, the tenant did not pay any utility bills at all and we managed to get the tenants out in December. The house is still empty as of 20th December do we need to inform the TV license that there is no one living in there and would we have to pay for a license if no one is in there at the moment?
Thankyou in advance.

I would not give them any information at all, and would not communicate with them. If you are not watching live TV in that property then you do not require a TV license. They will send letters and come knocking at some point; if there are new tenants in there then they can produce evidence of their license and all is well. But it will be up to the new tenants to prove they have a license for watching their TV in that property.TV licensing is desperately trying to claw back revenue from people who don't watch TV, and they will try their best to convince you that you are breaking the law, but in reality lots of people don't actually watch BBC content and/or live TV so do not need one. Their stance is though, if you have a TV in the property then you need a license1

An empty property doesn't require a TV Licence.
You don't have to inform TV Licensing that the property is empty. However given that the tenant has a history of not paying utilities, you may want to inform TVL so that it's clear where your responsibility for the empty property began.2
