Deposit paid for car and dealership selling car week later for less than reserved one

Paid deposit to secure car with dealership within 1 week same cars have been reduced by same dealership by almost 3000. Can I ask for a reduction the price of mine or am I locked in. Thanks

Legally, no (assuming you also signed a contract for the car purchases, and you're not within any cooling off period).

How much deposit did you pay? If less than £3K, then you do have another option...
  • Hi

£99 deposit and started the finance application but not yet signed.

Cancel agreement & buy one of the cheaper ones. But they could say no, even if you cancel.

Is that deposit a deposit on the price of the car, or simply a reservation fee for the dealer to not sell that particular car to anyone else so that you can travel to the dealership at the weekend to view and know the car is still available?

Have you ever visited the dealership?
If not, this might come under the remote purchase rules which may give you a right to cancel.
  • Just a reservation fee. Dealership a good 2hours away so all done remotely. Meant to go this weekend to collect. Is it work just asking if they would do something on the price? Thanks

To my mind you were obviously happy with the original cost
to be selling another one £3k off there is either something wrong with that one

If the price your paying is round about averwge for the car. Personally I would stick with that.

We haven't see what you have signed, but based on what you've said, I'd see losing £99 but getting a car for £3K cheaper than I was willing to pay a good result!

But, are the cars really like-for-like?

Ask the dealer if you can transfer the deposit to the other car.

Can you post the adverts of the two cars which are the same but £3000 different in price? There's going to be something, dealers aren't stupid.
