Eligibilty to Claim Compensation

Hi there
Struggling a bit with the rules
Flew London to Kathmandu via Delhi on a single ticket with Air India
I missed my connection in Delhi and was ultimately some 18 hrs delayed arriving in Kathmandu
(Flight from London to Delhi was running late …. I was transferred to a later Delhi Kathmandu flight while we were in the air which I knew nothing about. I actually managed to get to the boarding gate for my original flight in time but was told my flight had been shifted. Told I need to go to Gate X for my new flight .. I said what about boarding card??? …they said no problem just go …. was denied boarding for the new flight … AI put me up in hotel)
So .. originated in EC …. issues were within AI control (though hard for me to prove the conversations I refer to above) …..  just not sure if connecting flights between non EC destinations are included (and as i said above it was a single ticket with one airline not separate tickets)
So far I’ve contacted AI to find out the process for claiming compensation but got a non response so want to be sure its worth pursuing before I follow up - many thanks in advance
PS I had a brilliant time in Nepal!!!!!

You are eligle as you were booked on a single ticket for the whole journey London - Kathmandu, it's that journey that counts.

Yes, for connecting flights booked on a single ticket, the eligibility for delay compensation is based on arrival time at the final destination - note that it's the UK261 regulations you're claiming under, rather than the EU equivalent (which wouldn't cover flights on non-EU airlines that don't depart from the EU).
