Iphone stolen: Three won't block IMEI and I can't get insurance

My Iphone was bought from Apple store in the US, and it was recently stolen from my hand in London. I immediately reported as stolen to the police. Now insurance won't pay out as my network provider Three say they cannot do this (as it was not bought from them), and Apple say this is not something they do. I'm at a complete loss, can this really be the case?

Have you registered it with https://www.immobilise.com/
It is the database that police check when they find phones and other items.0 -
unsure what you mean by 'insurance wont pay' - could you elaborate?0

What reason have Three given for refusing to blacklist the phone? As long as it's been used on their network, there shouldn't be any problems???

Is it SIM only on 3?
Is insurance not paying because bought in US?0 -
Don't think it's sufficient to just have an in-service SIM associated with a phone to get it locked/blacklisted, think you must be able to prove ownership of the handset too. Did you offer Three copies of the receipt? Did Three not ask?
