Travel insurance for children only

NellieMoser - Make sure the insurers know it is NOT an unacommpanied minor - and that you (an adult) is traveling with the child - people confuse Adult with Parent and unaccompanied minor as child traveling with an unrelated (or more distant relative than parent) adult.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

I need to buy travel insurance in her own name for my 17 year old daughter. Issues are that we live in Channel Islands and she will be going to UK both with me and on a school trip and has a pre-existing medical condition - I'm obviously happy to pay more to cover this. She also goes to France to stay with her grandparents but the accommodation in this case is not paid for.
Somebody pointed me in the direction of flexicover direct. The cover seems o.k. and they quoted for the pre-existing conditions on the medical screenting. Policy is underwritten by AXA. However on investigating the company for customer service etc, the advice from previous travellers is avoid!! as the customer service is apparently appalling.
I'm now at my wits end as most of the providers will either not provide a policy for a 17 year old - roll on March when she will be 18 - or exclude cover from Channel Islands to UK type holidays - or exclude school trips. We have separate medical cover but her pre-existing is excluded from this (not an issue whilst at home as if she did need treatment then our Health service would pick up the cost even if provided in UK as they cannot provide here).
Can anyone offer any help or an update on flexi cover customer service. Thank you.0 -

I believe Post Office Insurance will cover children on their own policy. Check it out!
Don't know about the lone 16 year old but Post Office Travel Insurance (Fortis) is the ONLY insurer I have no trouble with.
They are an excelent insurerC. (Ex-Pat Brit)

OP - These bank account travel insurances are usually Axa underwriten -Lloyds/TSB is one of them. They are poo as far as claims handling goes and their customer service is terrible! If it is REALLY a free policy - you are still not getting value for money! If you are paying a monthly fee for your "premium" account then you are getting ripped off!
I cannot say this enough........
Stay away from AXA and White Horse travel insurance!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

I had the same situation with my son. At that time we used Globelink.co.uk Travel Insurance. I found it very affordable and they provide all the standard covers. You can try them.0
