I am confused what you just wrote. But regardless I need to fill in the form by January 2026 next year? Are you saying I should register now? If I do then I still need to edit the form next year (January 2026) earnings?
Register now to make sure you're ready. You won't be able to start your 2024/25 tax return until that tax year ends. Once you do, you can start the tax return and save it if you need to get more information.
Thank you! May I ask when you say register now you mean the government ID thingy? I downloaded the HMRC app and I am able to log in. Am I set now or do you mean I need to fill in the "self assessment form" too? Sorry for the dumbo questions I am thick I admit

As has previously been explained you don't need to file a return for 2023-24 so there literally is no tax return you can complete yet.

The 2024-25 tax return doesn't exist yet as the 2024-25 tax year hasn't ended yet.

This is a good place to start when it comes to registering with HMRC.  You need to tell them you are running your own business so they can send you a tax return to complete (after the first end of the tax year).

Yes. Suggested because I remember it took Lady Q a while to get her's set up, so you don’t want to start that just before the filing deadline.

You're set until the end of this tax year. Nothing needs to be done, or can be done, before then.

Thank you. However I don't have my UTR? The government ID account I had for a while for my previous employment but it wasn't self employed. How do I get my UTR now? Just to confirm the next deadline for me is next year January 2026? Thanks again :)

You need to register as self employed to get your UTR.

But to avoid confusion you are probably best waiting to April 2025 to do that.

Then you will have several months to file your 2024-25 tax return and pay any tax due.  The deadline for both things (tax return and any payment) will be 31 January 2026.
