They won’t be around much longer - enjoy it while you can. Personally given the choice and a long journey I much prefer an auto.

I recently changed to an auto and would never go back to a manual now.
Although, modern auto's (DSG) are far better, (and more efficient / economical) than the "old" style torue converter types.

Quite happy with either and we have both, but there are lots of automatics I would never consider, including anything which is an automated clutch system.  Had one of those which failed prematurely and never again.

DSG's are better in what way? The ZF 8HP (torque converter) is very similar if not slightly better on fuel consumption than a DSG. I have cars with both, the DSG shifts a bit quicker but I find the ZF box smoother. The ZF also better at slow speeds and doesnt lurch like the DSG. Old torque converter boxes we inefficient, but that was a long time ago. However you'll only generally find the 8HP in more expensive brands, such as JLR, BMW, Bentley, Aston Matin etc.

I got rid of my last manual car in 2019.

I wouldn't buy another, unless it was really, really cheap, or it was something I've always wanted that only came in manual, e.g. a Haflinger.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I have regressed in my old age and am currently having a lot of fun in my manual Toyota GR86, it reminds me of the Escort RS2000 I had in the early 1980s but without the axle tramp.

Youngsters will have no idea of the fun they have missed out on.

Me. Purely because I’ve never driven an automatic, so have no point of comparison,
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I have never driven an automatic. I am very resistant to switch to automatic although it is getting more tricky when looking at changing your car to something newer. I feel that I like to be in control of my car, I change the gear, I control the gas - basically - I drive my car! To me, it seems like the fun of driving is being removed in automatic/ newer cars with all the tech that I do not want or need. And I do get a bit concerned that the tech can fail. Also, a new generation of drivers are not really being taught how to drive/ control a car properly because they are learning in a nanny car..... I feel like new tech makes people stupid and less skilled. Sorry, I am becoming quite resistant to new tech and I'm still young! Will drive a manual ICE car for as long as I can and if that means driving classic cars then I will!
