Homeserve and Severn Trent Water

I had a letter from Severn Trent promoting Homeserve's plumbing and drainage insurance. If I take out this offer and I have a plumbing emergency which needs Severn Trent to do something before the Homeserve plumber can do his/her job (eg turning off an external stop tap) would Severn Trent respond more quickly and easily…

And if you take up the water insurance, Homeserve may then target you with gas boiler insurance and electricity emergency insurance. Parents in law ended up spending a very large amount on these various insurances, which (particularly in the case of the gas one, as they already had the British Gas version) they couldn't really afford.
