Yes I will remember that next time (to be honest I didn't think about that).eskbanker said:
But the point remains that the quality of answers given on here is directly proportional to the quality of the questions, hence the requests for clarification at the start of the thread, as time-consuming immigration checks will make a significant difference to the transit time....Thomas_Holding said:
Well actually IIRC there were some flights out some back (lots of options all with serious flaws). The worst was a 45 minute layover in Miami which I think is impossible.Alan_Bowen said:It sounds as though this is on your return journey, not the outbound? If we had known this, our views might have been entirely different!
Although in this case Miami is the only airport in the US so it will be the same going out and coming back.
I should also have said it is in the school holidays (both here and the US).
Sadly all the other options had big problems as well (such as travelling to or from an airport in a high crime city late at night - etc).

Thank you all again the discussion is now moot as they changed it - we now have an 8 hour stopover - the wife is not happy but it is probably for the best!2

And how long is the stopover on the way out?
Would you care to share your final destination? There might be other issues: if you are going to Cuba your visa will be cancelled.

3 hours 45 which we have done before so it should be fine. I can't say my final destination my wife is very cautious what she puts on line - but it is not Cuba and there are no visa issues (yet).Voyager2002 said:And how long is the stopover on the way out?

There are different processes in the US (and sometimes by airline/airport, especially at MIA) if your connection is domestic > international or international to international. I don't think you'd be giving much away by advising the nature of the connection.
If the previous connection was from a US domestic origin > Miami > wherever, 1h45 would have been fine. If it was international to international, would be more risky if you don't have Global Entry for the US, though you may not have to claim and recheck bags, depending on airlines involved.1
