Does anyone think that this is possible?

Thank you all, I would have replied earlier but I was ill. I agree with everyone this is far too tight but sadly we had no choice. (I can't go into details because it is personal but basically negotiating flights with my family is a nightmare - there is very little flexibility).
I will update in late August with what happens0 -
Is it a single multi-leg ticket sold by one airline, i.e. if the first flight is delayed and you miss the connection, are you on your own or will the airline be responsible for sorting it out? How long until the next flight to your ultimate destination?Thomas_Holding said:Thank you all, I would have replied earlier but I was ill. It is all sold by one company - American airlines. The flight leaves at 21.10 and there is another afterwards at 21.55 with BA so as they work together hopefully we can get that one. Or at 22.30 with Delta (I am not sure if that would happen or not).eskbanker said:

Oh well too late to worry now.

Sounds like you have a safety net then - it does seem odd that it wasn't viable to book the AA/BA itinerary with the 2.5 hour gap in the first place but handy to have the option if needed.Thomas_Holding said:

It sounds as though this is on your return journey, not the outbound? If we had known this, our views might have been entirely different!1

Well actually IIRC there were some flights out some back (lots of options all with serious flaws). The worst was a 45 minute layover in Miami which I think is impossible.Alan_Bowen said:It sounds as though this is on your return journey, not the outbound? But the point remains that the quality of answers given on here is directly proportional to the quality of the questions, hence the requests for clarification at the start of the thread, as time-consuming immigration checks will make a significant difference to the transit time....Thomas_Holding said:

Another point: if you arrive in the USA you have to collect your checked baggage and then re-check it before continuing your journey. If you land at Miami from an airport elsewhere in the USA your baggage will be transferred for you on to your onward international flight.

Depends on the journey. As others have said, the exact journey details would have had more accurate answersTroytempest said:We just flew Lima to Heathrow via Miami with British Airways.
Bags tagged through to Heathrow and immigration was very quick - about 45 minutes. Landed in Miami at about noon on a weekday and seemed fairly quiet. Probably very lucky!
