Glad it's been sorted, but as someone who's bought football kits previously, what were you actually looking for with the kit?

To be honest, if I'd bought a football shirt at a big discount, having the label cut off wouldn't bother me so long as everything else was ok. I wouldn't be buying it for the label, I'd be buying it for the actual kit. I'd be making a decision on whether it's worth the £55 being charged (well, obviously it's not worth that much, but football shirts are stupidly expensive anyway).

I think the retailer's mistake was not marking this as 'returned' or whatever, but glad it's been sorted anyway.
