Heat Pump Quote

Hi everyone,

I recently got heat pump quotes from octopus as I am considering making my home more green after getting solar panels.

I went through octopus and they quoted me 400 after the government subsidy which I felt was an absolute steal. Issue i have is that the cosy 6 which is more aesthetically pleasing can't go next to my house because of propane and air vents? So they said they could only do it if we got our new patio dug up and paid for that ourselves which isn't appealing.
Plan b is to get a daikin for 400 but my ideal was driveway and the space needed for a daikin means it won't fit well. They have said it could go under the window in the garden but my partner is not keen on the look of the daikin so I can't win her over to it going there as it's a bit of an eye sore.
Any other suggestions which could help? I'm not sure if any other providers can get near that quote my second quote was 3.5k!

Well the quote looks good so I'd be keen on finding a way to make this work.

I wasn't looking forward to having the Daikin sitting in the back garden but it's actually a lot smarter than I feared and family and friends have commented that it's not as bad as they thought it might be.   On top of that it seems to be a decent unit and is currently performing very well in the cold weather.

It seems quite common to have to do significant preparation work.  I had to remove a couple of shrubs and flatten the bed so Octopus could fit the base in for the heat pump.

So in conclusion:  an ASHP it always going to be a big bit of kit which takes up lots of room and is never going to be  particularly pretty, even if you find an alternative from another provider.  It's something that just has to be accepted. I reckon in time we'll get used to having these on the sides of houses and no-one will care too much. But for now being the odd house with a huge block stuck outside the house is not appealing.

Try explaining to the other half that you'll eventually have to have one anyway, so better to do it while it's £400 rather than having to pay £4K at some point in the future when the government aren't giving grants anymore.

I assume the propane is for cooking?  Could you switch to an induction hob? and then reposition the air vent to allow the cosy6 to go where you want it?  Not free but probably a few hundreds?
    I think....

Before I had an air source heat pump I had an external oil boiler.  So I just had to replace one big box with another one that was a bit longer and thinner.

No, The propane is the refrigerant in the heat pump.

R290 (propane) in the Cosy 6

Daikin use R32 as the refrigerant.

It can't be near certain parts of the home. It is flammable and heavier than air so sits in drains and the like.

So is it just the air vent that is the problem and could it be moved or would it still be a problem even if there were no air vent?

Some discussion (but no conclusions) here

I believe it's because there are small air vents or weep holes? Spaced out on the exterior wall and the propane heat pump can't got near them. Rules out anywhere but digging up the patio to have it next to the garage for the cosy 6.
