Would you eat this?

A quick look in the freezer has revealed a bonus portion of chicken stock and...
....A BONUS CHICKEN! But, the expiry date is December 06. It's been frozen since the day I bought it (I assume). If I eat it, will I be ill?
Fancy forgetting about a whole chicken. No wonder I'm skint!

Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

I wouldn't eat it personally.0

I'd eat it no problem, it wont have gone 'off' as its frozen but you may want to slow cook it as some of the flavour might be lost and texture may be a bit tougher but food is food, and there to be eatenMortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0

I would......we once ate a leg of lamb that I rescued from the back of the freezer that was at least 18 months out of date......we are still here!:D0

Defrost it and see what it's like, you'll know if meat isn't good because of the smell (and look)0

I would eat it, no problem. I eat meat, thats been frozen for 6 months, never been ill.0

I'd eat it. Food doesn't go off in the freezer. It can deteriorate a little bit so the quality might not be so good.
Our turkey this year was an organic free range one that I picked up on New Years Eve last year reduced from £28 to £5, therefore kept in the chest freezer for almost a year. It was the best turkey we've ever had.

If it was frozen on the day you bought it it will be fine, defrost it and make sure it smells OK then cook and enjoy.0

Was it bought already frozen and has it remained frozen?
If yes to both then the chicken is likely to be OK - it may well be badly freezer burnt and if this is the case the flavour will suffer where it has dried out. (you could cut these bits off) Freezing stops bacteria breeding so as long as you are sure the meat has remained frozen it should be fine to eat.
Defrost it thoroughly and give it a sniff before you cook it. If in doubt, chuck it out.
Best Before dates - advisory - OK to eat after this date but some loss in quality. Eg. Crisps, frozen goods, dried goods, etc.
Use By - Food can become dangerous to eat after this time - eg. shellfish, fish, milk, eggs, etc.
Use your common sense too - just because it's in date it may not be fit to eat!!!!!If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Wow! I hadn't thought of buying the xmas dinner that far in advance! Well, it looks like slow roast chicken on Saturday/Sunday. Hopefully not to be folowed by a long date with "the porcelain shrine" as my brother would say!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0

I would eat it, if it smells when defrosted then don't otherwise cook it well and go for it.0
