I think I was born with a book in my hand (OUCH - poor Mum:p )
Nothing too high brow or mentally taxing:rolleyes: and if there is a dead body by chapter three then I'm as happy as a pig in muck. Fav places to hunker down for a good read are a shady spot in the garden in the summer or in the conservatory on warm evenings. Once the clocks go back I adopt my Winter position of being up to my ears in bubbly water with a glass of wine within easy reach.:D
I'm currently reading "The Hanging in the Hotel" by Simon Brett he writes with two crime busting middle aged female protagonists. One very laid back and a bit hippy and the other very uptight and recently retired from the home office. There is a lot of humour in the book as well as a good crime yarn. Other fav authors are Sue Grafton, Ann Granger, Veronica Stallwood, !!!!!! Franics (not his later books tho)
I recomend "Who else writes like" you will often find it in the reference section of the library. Ideal for when you have exhausted an author's work (why can't they write them as quick as we read!) Look up a writer you like and it will list writers with a similar style and character/s HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
For books about language, try Bill Bryson as an easy intro (Mother Tongue about English in general; Made in America is more specifically about US English) - apparently some of his facts aren't too straight, but they're very enjoyable to read. If you want something a bit more scholarly, David Crystal has a couple of books that might fit the bill.0

Before you even get to the library there's which book dot net where you can "set" the type of book you'd like to read and it will come up with a list for you.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I don't read as much as I should. But when you are doing an OU course you are reading but not for pleasure :rotfl:
With my other hobbies cross stitch and card making and the internet reading does come bottom of the list. When I was about 12/13 I could not go to sleep unless I had read a chapter from a book. How times change.
But I have just read A girls best friend is her money from the TMF people. Interesting read. Tells woman not to wait for the man on the white charger to look after you.
But I don't have a television and not had one for about 5/6 years. It is so great to get away from the grind of it. And as I am at home all day at the moment it would be on all day and I would get nothing done. Not that I get much done at the moment anyway

Just been to my college library. I got a book on plant physiology for over the summer, the complete Sherlock Holmes stories, "Look Back In Anger", and essays on science. I'm going to finish up here then go and sit outside and read "Look Back In Anger", I think.0
