I adore books! Favourites at the moment are any Jennifer Weiner, any Isabelle Allende, any Ben Elton, Marion Keyes is great for chick lit - I'll read anything and everything! Still read my Nancy Drew's and Point Horrors that I got when I was still at school! :rotfl:0

I finally got round to reading my copy of Sophie's Choice - it's enormously long, and I've had it for years but the sheer size of it put me off. In the end once I got started I couldn't put it down, it's an amazing read. I've never watched the film but the book is awesome. It's from the 70's, but it is also timeless. When I got to the bit which was the choice the title character had to make I went cold...I was so into it, it read like a true story. I still think about what I would have done had I been the central character - the story really touched me.
If you haven't read it but see it in a charity shop or the library definitely get it!!0 -
I have just read Hubble Bubble by Christina Jones (anything fluffy and easy to read read for me I'm afraid!
), I really enjoyed it and I am ALWAYS somewhere in the pages of the Tightwad Gazette. I use the library a lot but I love owning books, I am a real bookworm and a bit of a hoarder!

Now it's not dark on my way home I have rediscovered the joy of the library - got 6 books out today! I have been reading some of the Victorian novels I somehow missed at uni; 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall' (not bad) and 'Madame Bovary' (very racy for the nineteenth century!"). I got a Kathy Reichs novel today as some less highbrow stuff, and some good non-fiction.
BTW, I hope it's OK to link this, I run a book/writing forum at https://www.doublespacedforum.com - free to join (so v. MS!) and this link won't make me any money or anything, I can just see there's lots of booklovers here who would be very welcome there.0 -
I favour autobiographies and travel stories and there are a few that I've added to my list thanks to this thread
I'm currently re-reading some of Bill Bryson's travel stories, his sense of humour appeals to me and I've used a couple of his books as guides during my own travels so they help to bring back happy memories.
I'm also waiting (not very patiently) for my turn at borrowing Brian Keenan's 'Four Quarters of Light' from the library. It's about his journey across Alaska which is a holiday I dream about taking one day.

I love Terry Pratchets books - they always cheer me up when I've lost my sense of humour about everything!
I used to read loads of traval books - but with no hope of getting out from behind my desk for a while yet, yaaaawwwwwn! It has just been too depressing!
I have developed a great enthusiasm for Noam Chompsky, political commentary type books - its good for my brain cells to get an exercise and I love a bit of capitalism bashing when I'm making money for someone else! - woo hoo!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!0
