Minster Baywatch PCN with blue badge displayed.

Hello,

Yesterday after visiting Meadowhall Hall shopping centre I returned to find a parking ticket. I would love some advice on how to approach it if possible.

The car park I always use was closed due to snow/ice. This car park has the most disabled parking spaces out of the many car parks they have - hence why I use it. I then attempted another car park which I know to have disabled parking spaces. This was full between a mixture of parked cars and spaces that hadn’t been cleared of snow/ice.

After seeing this my wife suggested we try another car park that is undercover. After driving in we could not find a single disabled parking space but there was plenty of parent child spaces available. I decided to use one and displayed my badge like normal.

The only ticket I have ever received was for using a Starbucks in which they said I’d stayed in the drive through for 22 hours. I had actually gone in the following day but they still rejected my appeal even though I provided evidence to clear my case.

So do I try to appeal this one (you have to write in) or just let them hound me with letters?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Name the parking company who issued the PCN,  if its Minster Baywatch then it must have been a private car park

Check your blue badge booklet,  it doesn't apply on private car parks,  but the Equality Act 2010 may do if you complied with the signs

I suspect that you failed to comply with the signage on that private property,  in so doing breaching the parking contract

What was the alleged breach   ?

Name the actual location stated on the pcn  ?

Show us pictures of the signage

The parking company is Minster Baywatch.

Reason for ticket issue: vehicle was not registered with Meadowhall to use parent and child parking bays.

Location was Meadowhall customer car park which is in Sheffield.

I haven’t got a picture of the signage they put up around the car park but as we walked in we did see this..

    Thanks again

    Ignore them.

Meadowhall failed in their duty to make more (extra) provisions specially to cater for all the displaced Blue Badge Holders due to the closure of lots of accessible bays that day. That's illegal.

They have their priorities wrong as a matter of law. You are protected, not parents with kids.

    Hi.
May I add to this thread please?
Same happened to me on 2/1/2025 as happened to @caudyboy
Within 12 mins of parking in the parent space having displayed blue badge bcz they were no spaces near the Next store entrance I spent 40 mins inside). Never had a ticket like this here. Annoyingly the fairground is taking up lots of parking spaces. Do I have the same grounds to complain above/and/or by saying they failed to provide extra disabled parking due to the fair rides being installed there?  Or best to just ignore it?
    TIA.

    Do both.

    You won't ever pay it.

    No problem at all.

I did go into Meadowhall the other day to speak to a lady at customer service. She was very rude about the situation and didn’t provide any help at all.

I will be ignoring all letters from them as suggested.

I have now received a ‘letter before claim’ from Gladstones solicitors.

Should I also ignore this or ‘dispute the debt’ with them?

They also sent me a text message telling me ‘the amount is due’. How did they managed to obtain my mobile number as I’ve had no previous correspondence with them?

Thank you for any help given.

I recommend emailing in response with CouponMad's point. Stick in that you would consider filing an N20 witness summons against Meadowhall management to explain their illegality in providing adequate disabled spaces.

Might scare them away from making a claim.

Thank you for replying so quickly.

With regards to the N20 - how would you correctly word this in the email?

You'd have to Google that bit. We don't cover wording for every scenario but there are plenty of examples here about how to word the bit about the Equality Act and discrimination.
