Need advice and don't know where to turn!

Hi all,
Just after some further advice please. So it turns out my father’s life insurance policy DOES form part of the estate and is not ‘in trust’. Its value is approx 7.5k.I’ve already arranged and paid out £1400 for a direct cremation personally.I haven’t accessed any finances of my fathers.
His letting agent are yet to state how much money they want for repair of his rental property, but I assume it will equate to thousands. Other unsecured debts equate to around 13-15k. There may be other bits and pieces I’m not aware of.
The life insurance are sending me a claim form, but fundamentally I do not wish to act as executor at all.My thoughts are as to whether I could
claim ONLY the funeral costs paid from the policy to me as next of kin, and whether the life insurance can then just hold the rest themselves incase someone else does wish to act as executor, or whether that is never possible? Is this classed as intermeddling if I took part of the money for funeral costs? I obviously have receipts to evidence I wouldn’t have benefitted financially in any way, and a direct cremation is about as low cost as possible.0
