Yeh i agree shorter term goals are valuable to make you feel some achievement for your efforts so you dont just give up as your end target can seem a long way off in the distance. My little short term goals are trying to stay within my weekly food budget, not spending any money each day on anything that isnt needed to survive, stay off alcohol and use the money saved to pay off my debt, saving as much money as i can each month and paying as much as i can at the end of the month towards my debt with the amount i have saved each month. These are what drive me on each week/month to carry on the way have been going so far.VAP_Driver said:Whilst it’s always important to have your end goal, I also found having smaller, more short term goals really important to stop me feeling too disheartened and overwhelmed.
The other great ‘revelation’ I found during my own journey is once you’ve started to turn things around, and have a bit of breathing space with a small emergency fund set aside for unexpected bills, it seemed to me that the unexpected bills occurred a lot less. Obviously, it’s just a matter of perception and positive reinforcement, but if ever I knew I couldn’t afford a big bill to come out of nowhere, then I could guarantee that would be the time that I would get a flat tyre, or the central heating would stop working. As soon as I had a buffer, then it didn’t seem to happen half as much.
It’s like they could smell the fear.
I can definitely agree with the idea that when you have more spare cash less seems to go wrong. It's sods law that things go wrong at the wrong time cash wise and you often end up having to borrow money and end up in more debt and it becomes a vicious circle sometimes. Which can destroy you mentally aswell as financially.Debts Jan 6th 2025 = £6465.60

Well unfortunately im going to have to take £100 out of my emergency account in a few days time as ive been caught speeding. So a £100 fine and 3 points on my licence are on their way to me next week. I was in a work van and the company have received the letter from the relevant authority and i have had to give my details as the driver of the vehicle, so i know i will get the letter at some point next week. I can't go on a speed awareness course and pay less as i have already been on one of these last year unfortunately.
I was doing 35mph in a 30mph zone and the police man was around a corner in a layby behind a car so i was unable to see him until it was too late
Too late now anyway, its done unfortunately
I have read that my insurance will increase by around 5% because of the 3 points on my licence now, not as much as i thought it would go up by, but it remains to be seen what the actual increase will be when it comes to my insurance renewal date in October.Debts Jan 6th 2025 = £6465.60
