The time I tried to microwave butter was also the time I discovered that the butter wrapper should not be microwaved.
Butter comes out of the fridge, unwrapped and on to a plate.  That's my rule.  Some wrappers are ok, but obviously not the aluminum ones!!

And yes the microwave does have a couple of known faults....we turn it off when not using it, not to save energy but because it started to turn itself on at random.  I think that's stopped now but I'll continue to turn it off just in case.
Thats.... probably the point at which you want a new microwave.

are you putting the butter at the same radial distance from the centre of the microwave plate ?
    you didn't answer my question
dead centre every time!!!  I will measure it to be sure next time!!!
That's not actually the best place to put a item in the microwave, the microwaves aren't evenly distributed in the oven, so it's best to place a small item somewhere the rotation of the platter will move it to different areas inside.

I’ll add my 2p worth. It’s healthier to use olive oil.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Try putting your butter on a plate over a 1/3 rd full bowl of water. Micro for 10 secs then leave until the correct consistency

For spreading on bread straight from the fridge try the many (different priced) spreads that are available these days, you will find one or two brands that you prefer.
Agreed. Although I'm retired there's nothing that will persuade me that microwaving butter is a good use of my time - even for 17 seconds. Anchor Spreadable is pretty good if you ask me.....

Often the butter is softer on the underside.
