Microwave query about butter

Some can be pretty bad, (expensive is no guarantee), others as you say you would not know unless you had spread it yourself.

Depends what sort of microwave you have.
Inverter driven machines have a variable output which is gives a more even continuous output than the sort that clunks on an off.
They just fire up the magnetron at full power for 100% or to lower the power output they clunk on an off at full blast but for shorter period with gaps.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
OK, so 10 seconds - not enough - 20 seconds too much - I'd have at least tried the 15 seconds...🙄
Anyway, we were taught from an early age how to spread butter straight from the fridge and I don't own a microwave, so I don't think I have anything else to add...Sorry..🤷♂️Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thanks all - I think it's the 2-3 seconds "warming up" revving into full power that is the crucial bit.
And yes everything else is the same. And yes we're tried the soft from the fridge spreads (lurpak is nice, but kept for real emergencies)
And yes the microwave does have a couple of known faults....we turn it off when not using it, not to save energy but because it started to turn itself on at random. I think that's stopped now but I'll continue to turn it off just in case.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I'm sure Alice (may she Rest In Peace) would have had something to say about it...

Possibly a fridge cycling thing. Sometimes you take butter out of the fridge when it's ready to start it's refrigerating cycle (when the butter is slightly warmer), other times its just at the end, (when the butter is slightly colder). Or maybe, like our kitchen, the plates are colder some days, compared to the next e.g. when there's been a cold snap overnight. Too many variable's to say. Someone must have researched the max/min temperature of a typical fridge over time based on ambient conditions. I'll take the job if I'm paid, if I can eat the result.2

The time I tried to microwave butter was also the time I discovered that the butter wrapper should not be microwaved.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline.
