    If you think you are not eligible because of earnings then please do use one of the benefits calculators to check that.
    One of a couple having  LCW/LCWRA in UC gives the couple a 'Work Alliwance' which lets that couple earn more before it affects UC.
    However if it's because you have savings/capital above £16k then that is a blocker.
    A recent survey and report about people who didn't migrate from Tax Credits to UC has found than many didn't claim UC because they thought they were not entitled to any UC when in fact they were. (Some have since gone on to claim UC after all).

    My grandad recently passed which has put us over the 16k xx

    Thanks for clarifying, yes over £16k in the bank means no IR benefts and you are expected to live off that money until it drops below £16k.
