easyJet EZY2222 Sofia to Manchester 2/1/25

Ok so it was only 6 minutes over the threshold but wondered if others have any comments.

1. Easyjet app said delay was technical issues on previous flight.
2. Majority of flights at airports used by the plane were on time or within 30 minutes or so.
3. Pilot said delays were due to fog at Sofia yet again nearly every other flight departed on time.
4. Pilot then said de-icing was another cause for delay. Sofia in January typically needs de-icing so surely this should be factored into the turnaround time.

Probably a tough one as combi action of both, even if the weather issues added 30mins delay it's still caused by weather - so EasyJet will probably refuse based on that fact - you can try longer battle, but the win isn't guaranteed.

    How about travel insurance?

    Thank you.

Travel insurance doesn't cover a delay that short.

Not convinced about weather argument though as nearly all flights took off on time. Had weather been a problem this wouldn't have been the case.

If the total delay was 3 hours and 6 minutes, then all the airline needs to do is to find 7 minutes of delay due to circumstances beyond its control to bring the delay under 3 hours for matters deemed to be within its control, so I'd say your chances of succeeding with a claim are likely to be minimal under the circumstances (but nothing to lose by going for it of course).

Well no surprise that it got rejected.

But omg. The reason given was snow at Manchester. Amazing given that 72% of flights departed within 30 minutes. Of the 270 odd departures only 4 experienced delays of 2 hours or more etc.

    Oh well!

Snow means that planes need larger gaps between them when taking off or landing, so less planes can take off and land, so ATC reduce the number of slots and tell airlines to cancel flights.

These circumstances are exempt from compensation under UK261

Well done, can you share more about the discussions between the parties that led to them settling?

Yes of course - I submitted a dispute via aviation ADR - I provided details like the original updates from Easyjet saying it was a technical issue, flight departure info from other airlines showing no weather delay etc. Easyjet were given a timeframe to respond - they asked for an extension until today - I was expecting to see more reasons for delays etc but got offered a settlement of £700,

Thanks - interesting to learn that they'll sometimes fold when escalated to AviationADR, despite presumably having issued a 'final response' for you to take to AviationADR in the first place!  I assume that the £700 is the full value of the claim, i.e. two passengers at £350?
