If you only want data, definitely no calls or texts, and Three have acceptable coverage then ScanCom will do you a SIM with 25GB a month for the next 25 months for a one-off fee of £64.99. That's about £2.60 a month.

How long (in time) is your commute? 30 minutes, one hour, three hours? Each way?

The same source (Generative AI) has this number for Waze

Data usage

Waze uses about 0.23 MB of data every 20 minutes, which is less than other navigation apps. However, continuous use can consume a lot of data.

I'm sure you can do the sums to find out how long 10gb would last.

Been tempted by those ScanCom offers in the past. Do the warnings and caveats about being a "business-only" product actually matter?

I have purchased one myself. They made no attempt to establish whether I was a business beyond the statement on their listing. My suspicion is that they only have a business-to-business contract with the mobile networks and aren't authorised to sell to consumers.

From the numbers above, 40 hrs of Waze will use a lot less than 1GB. 40 hours of High-quality spotify will be (40 x 0.072) about 3GB. So 4GB for the month.

We've assumed you'll be using Spotify If you have a different music platform, do let us know which one.
