MFI have sales on at the moment. The Rest Assured range is good and there's 4% discount via Quidco.

Also check Bedstar and Bedworld with 7% and 10% discount respectively via Quidco. Matressman also has 7% off via Quidco.

As many of you will know I do sell beds, but I would like to make it clear that the advice I give on here is 100% impartial.

You may sell beds for a living, but you are no more a professional sleeper than the rest of us.

Where is this on Quidco? I can only find "MFI Appliances" at 2% :(.

Maybe not, but I do know more about build quality of beds and mattresses than most people. I'm not like many sales reps you find in the big chain stores, I do know my subject, and I do give impartial advice rather than just try to make a quick buck.

Also 4% off an expensive starting price isn't exactly a good saving is it?

But Tim, you're not allowed to give advice on here (I assume), so why butt in?

Maybe this is so, but people know what they feel comfortable on. And, as an impartial professional you will no doubt be well aware that a bed type that suits one individual, may well not suit another.

I am on here to give advice, and not to sell. Just because you find a particular mattress comfortable doesn't mean that is good quality, gives good support or will last. These are all important factors as far as mattresses go.

I'm afraid the bed industry is full of gimmicks that are designed to trick people into spending more. The truth is often that many sales reps don't have your interest at heart, but instead they just try to convince you to buy the mattress that earns them the most commision.

Here are some of the sales gimmicks used:

Pillow Top Mattresses: this is one of the biggest sales gimmicks out, and for this reason I refuse to sell them. Pillow tops may feel very comfortable in the shops, but their extra comfort is only relatively short term. The fillings used can vary from hollow fiber to wool, or feathers. Now if you have ever owned a hollow fiber quilt you will know that after a while they start to become flat and lumpy. Now this is when the quilt is on top of you, with a pillow top you are on top of it. If you have owned a feather quilt then you will know that the feathers tend to gather at one end of the quilt, and that you have to give it a good shake to even them out (you can't shake a mattress).

Non Turn Mattresses: I know that there are many non turn mattresses on the market, and I do actually sell a few. However what I don't like is when sales reps use the non turn as a feature to sell the mattress, and giving the impression that the mattress is specially designed so that it will last longer without being turned. The truth is that the main reason for a mattress being non turn is to keep the manufacturing costs down, and that the mattress quite simply won't last as long as a two sided mattress that is turned on a regular basis.

'The more memory foam the better': this is sooo untrue. Some manufacturers use very deep layers of memory foam, and tell people that the deeper the foam the better. The truth is that the optimum thickness for memory foam is 2" to 2 1/2". Less than this and it won't be enough to contour to your body. If the foam is too deep, then you will sink into it, and it will wrap around you making you too hot.

'The more pocket springs the better': also untrue.
If a king size mattress has at least 800 pocket springs, then this is enough to do what pocket springs are designed to do. Some manufacturers make mattresses with 2000 or even 3000 springs in their mattresses (and then charge the earth). The truth is that in order to fit so many springs in a mattress, then each individual spring has to be so small and weak, that they break very easily.

There are many people in these forums who have thanked me for my advice. I am allowed to give this advice as an 'expert' in my field because I am not using MSE to try and sell.

Occasionally someone gets the hump because I dare to suggest that they have taken wrong advice from a sales rep. Now if this has happened to you, then all I can do is apologise on behalf of my industry for the dodgy sales reps who do exist. It is because of these dodgy sales reps that I take so much time out of my very busy schedule to give people honest advice on MSE.

I did not accuse you of trying to sell on here.

The bed type that I made reference to may or may not be of a good quality, or, in your opinion not give good support. But the fact remains that I disagree with you inasmuch as I find it comfortable and I sleep well on it. I don't want a bed that you feel is of superior quality, but one in which I can't sleep soundly.

Yes I agree with you here. Like all others, the bed industry will be riddled with unscrupulous sales people. So you read up about your subject, you ask some questions and you evaluate your prospective purchase. And perhaps most importantly you lie down on the bed you think you want to have, and you try it out before buying.
