Morning All
Bright but very cold this morning, nice to have a dry day for a change. Hope everyone is safe from the floods.
Lovely lazy day yesterday with a new year dinner with friends. Had another good nights sleep and beginning to feel better after this cold. DD seems to have it now so I'll see if she wants me to take the little one for a while.
I may have a dust around this morning and put some washing in, it's the last of the bedding from last week's visitors - determined not to put the TD on!
That's commitment Wicked Lady, hope you've dried out now.
Happy Birthday to your DDad Allie.
Take care. XX

Morning all & a Happy New Year to all- I didn't get on yesterday. Busy due to excess water collecting at the bottom of the hill in front of us, brought back memories of us being flooded in 2015. I couldn't take pooch out across the road, she didn't like wading in it. This time it was purely due to lack of maintainance by the council, who as far as I know havent cleaned the filters in the last 9 years so the water wasnt going anywhere!
DS1 came up trumps, water up to his armpits nearly, trying to get at the covers on the filters at the kerbside, eventually suceeding. They were full so he emptied 4 of them, and we lifted grids further up the road after clearing them of leaves, and thankfully it all drained away into the flood defence chamber in front of us. I was worried there'd be a landslip again & it's certainly washed parts of the paths that were renewed at the time. Reported to the council AGAIN, but at least we know the covers can be lifted now, and next door hepled too. Poor DS was absolutely sodden and freezing. What a change today though, clear and bright and frozen.
I cooked a beef joint, today I'm going to get rid of the tree and decs.I need to go and unfreeze the bin lid as I can hear the bin men in the next roadTake care all x

Morning All
I was awake earlier but went back for a snooze after seeing ice on the cars! Plus I had an early night last night.
Definitely a drop in temperature.
Our Dec's are still up, not me being lazy but DGC due home at the weekend and have not yet opened their presents from us.
Yesterday was spent doing an inventory on my laptop. I am determined to lower our costs this year and as we still have our friend with us for the rest of the month want to tighten the strings. ( DF not allowed to drive for a month after procedure). Also looking to join some of the savings challenges this year.
Hope all our poodles ( love this ) are on the mend.
Stay safe,warm and dry.
Hugs to all who want them

Morning everyone and thanks for the start @Gers x
Im meeting BFF today at large Kent shopping mall. I need to take my coffee pods back to recycle and pick up more. We have a subscription so will use the credit on that. Also need more supplements for me and quit aid patches for DH. I have no desire to shop in the sales but if I see reduced Christmas cards for family members I will get some. I will also look for some wool to knit a teacosy - think only JL have a haberdashery, so depends what they have in stock.Dinner tonight is leftover pie round 2. Will serve with mash, sprouts and carrots.Happy Birthday to your Dad Allie x

Good morning all
Thank you for the start @Gers
Felt really cold when I got up this morning, haven't been out but at least the sun is shining and it's dry.
Just messaged the gardener, didn't think he would come today but wanted to check.
Not made any resolutions but I'm going to try and eat better. It's easy to get cheese and crackers, or a banana and yoghurt instead of a meal. Cooking for one seems pointless.
Might do some housework.
Take care

Morning everyone
Lovely and bright here this morning but freezing cold when I popped to the bin. It's nice to see the sunshine, yesterday it rained all day.
I went down to mam and dads in the morning and then had a very lazy afternoon.
Last night DD sent me brilliant photos of the Northern Lights, beautiful purple and pink. She's just down the hill from me - I went outside but could only see jet black sky - my phone is too old to see the lights.
This morning I need to clean upstairs, I did the bathroom before I came downstairs, so I'll do some more when I've finished my breakfast. Then I'm going to go down to DDs to play car racing on little ones' new Wii - I've warned her I was never much good at it when her mummy had one. I expect she'll be very excited as it's her birthday tomorrow, she has great expectations of being six!
Right I 'd better get on - hope everyone has a good day13 -
Morning all from a frosty and sunny Mehefinland
Gosh it was a struggle to get up this morning! Sharp white frost covering everything but the road - we get gritted now as the SAR (search and Rescue) and Police wellychopters are just up the lane. Field was glistening white, and when the sun came up it was blinding but strangely beautiful as it sparkled. Just call me Byron lol.
The nags rugs had partially dried overnight but I had to stuff them back on so they could go out this morning. My hands were freezing but the time everything was done.
Plans today are to get as much haylage onto the feed room as I can before we get the forecast snow ( if it comes here, as we are so near the coast it has it's own microclimate).Just trying to save myself from an awful lot more work. The last time we had significant snowfall was in the 'beast from the east' and the horses didn't go out for 2 days. Fortunately DS was still around then , so I got him helping us both. This year will be a battle if it happens.
Just updated the new calendar with the birthdays, and binned the last years in the recycling box. Got to wobble down to the PO shortly.
Hugs and spoons as always, and let's hope the poodles don't need the vets!

Morning all. Today is forecast to be dry, bright and sunny but cold, very cold. Now it's light I can see frost and iced over puddles, brrr. Highs of 3 and lows of -3 so it will be another day of staying indoors and keeping warm.
I did read along yesterday but completely forgot to post! Hardly surprising, as the day was spent in a sleep filled stupor, thanks to the lurgy, nothing to do with over indulging on NYE. Honestly!I did raise a glass to DH at midnight so that's another "first" gone by. There were the usual fireworks but they didn't go on for too long.
The lurgy is still hanging around like an unwelcome visitor; the annoying cough is making my ribs ache and depleting energy levels so I'll be having another lazy day of doing not a lot. Not my ideal start to the NY but things will get better and at least I have only myself to cater for and can eat what and when I want. The hyacinths I bought before Xmas are starting to flower, a startling blue, and feel like a cheery welcome when I open the blind each morning.
I think the bin men have just been so I'll pop out in a while to see if they've remembered to empty our communal ones. If not, it will be bin wars with the council - again.
Happy birthday to @Allie's DF.
Well done to your DS @RosyRed.
@silver-oldie - I know what you mean about cooking for one seeming pointless but I was determined to have proper meals after DH passed. And I still set the table nicely, even if it is just for me. We're worth it, you know!
I can't think of anything else to waffle on about right now so will send everyone sincere wishes that 2025 will be kind to us all. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.14 -
Morning all, we also have a heavy frost and sunshine, but it's much better weather than the storms of the last couple of days. I had a quiet day yesterday, mostly watching stuff on the TV although I did do a roast beef dinner which was delicious. There is still a lot of beef left which will be sliced up and put in the freezer today, it was half price before xmas so that's why I bought such a large piece. In hindsight perhaps it would have been better to cut it in half before it went in the freezer in the first place !
Today I want to check my store cupboards and make a list as to what's needed, or not, similarly the freezers as lots of things have come out over xmas and gone back in as cooked leftovers. I think it may be something with chips for tea tonight.
Hugs to the poorly ones and anyone in need. Happy birthday for the birthday people for tomorrow.
Take care, keep warm all
