Thanks for tip. XSuffolk_lass said:I don't bother to cover my strawberry plants @Makingabobor2, I would be concerned that they might rot. They are quite tough - in fact I used to buy them from Ken Muir (business gone now) and they would despatch them from cold store in March, for them to reawaken in the Spring. They all look pretty sad at the moment but they do perk up in SpringMaking the debt go down and savings go up

Early Season's Greetings everyone, off to sunny South Africa for Christmas.
A lovely, mild day on allotment, managed to tidy some beds, harvested leaf beet, chard, couple of leeks and some chillies (which

have finally gone a bit red!)
Planted 3½ raised beds of broadbeans. Not sure if i left it too late, spring next year will tell.
Two raised beds have serious amounts of marestail. They had horsemanure added beginning of year, think it was the first beds we done without proper barrier at bottom. Lesson learned.
Looking forward to spending time with my dad at their new place in South Africa. He got the beds ready and shade netting in place, ready for me to help him plan and plant.
See you all next year xxIt's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.4 -
Ahhh - the bishops crown chillies from the free seeds with Kitchen Garden mag, by any chance? One of mine went a beautiful bright red, but the rest have all remained resolutely green. I threw out all except one chilli plant last weekend. Some had small green chillies on them, so if they were big enough to be worth it I kept them. Most of the leaves had fallen off the plants, so it seemed time for them to go. I now have one left with a red Scotch Bonnet on it, I'll keep that on the plant until I'm ready to use it.1
