How long do they last for?  Mine is at least 5 years old but could be a lot older.

It does not clean properly anymore.

We have a Vax going on 15 years, parents have one a lot older.

Parts can wear out, so often it's a case of servicing and replacing worn parts vs the cost of getting a new one. It all depends on why "it does not clean properly". Could be plenty of reasons, blockages in the pipes restricting airflow, filters in front of the pump not been cleaned, or a rubber seal deteriorated letting air in.

I'd try getting all the filters etc. out, cleaning them and seeing if that improves the performance.

Our vax is 8 years old but I do regularly clear it out and change the filters. I have long hair and it's a nightmare!

Have you pressed the very right hand panel button as that model does I believe have several power settings.

 My Dyson only lasted 5 years. I cleaned it regularly but one day it started smoking and tripped my electrics.

It does not clean properly anymore.

We have two similar Miele vacuum cleaners... (One up, one downstairs).
The S5 Cat and Dog is from 2011.
The C2 is from 2017.

Both have manual rotary motor speed/power controls rather than pushbutton if that matters.

Both work fine and I'd expect them to continue to do so for many more years.  But I do change the bags and filters regularly.  When did you last change yours?  The suction does decrease if the bag is over full.  I use genuine Miele parts purchased when they are on offer,

Always worth a check to see if something has lodged in the pipes and attachments (but usually the motor noise increase will alert one to such an issue).
