Not that I would every buy any car sight unseen, this has too many questions to even consider doing such.
Car of this age and complexity if it goes wrong, you need to have someone who knows what they are looking at check it over.
As asked previously, who are you intending to get to maintain the car for you. It really needs a Mercedes specialist, its not the sort of car you throw at your local grease monkey.
No I think the last picture although grainy says service 2024, no I get what ur saying but I don’t really know anyone that’s into cars especially not mechanics so I didn’t know cos it comes with warranty I could just get it delivered and then take it to garage for a check over ect400ixl said:Advert says 84k miles but speedo says 94k miles. It will be a garage obviously , my dads friend has the same car he nowhere near me, he hasn’t once had it serviced with Mercedes lol, and he says it really isn’t that much more expensive if something does go wrong than any other car, none the less still expensive400ixl said:Advert says 84k miles but speedo says 94k miles. Another rustbucket I'm afraid.
Enlarge the pics and look at the wheelarches.
Not pretty.1 -
Read what I said, a Mercedes specialist, not a main Mercedes dealer.Gewakefie said:

As I put earlier, things like brakes and normal parts aren't that expensive. Its a Mercedes C class in drag at the end of the day. However if you get anything like electrical issues then it can get very expensive very quickly, especially if it is any old grease monkey who doesn't have the right diagnostic equipment and starts throwing parts at it.
A Mercedes specialist would cost anywhere near a main dealer and probably little more than a back street garage, but having a relationship built with them through servicing can be invaluable when other issues occur.1 -
Have a look at some other threads here where people have either bought cars at a distance or from a dealer where the warranty is worthless. Any car that's 20 years old is likely to have issues that won't be covered by a warranty so it's probably safer to assume that you have to cover any faults yourself. As such you might find a private sale to be a more reliable route if you can find one that has been owned by an enthusiast for a large number of years.Gewakefie said:400ixl said:Advert says 84k miles but speedo says 94k miles. I think that could be the M271 engine - if so you definitely need a knowledgeable party with you to check it out properly. It wasn’t one of Mercedes’ greatest achievements particularly with timing issues not helped by poor servicing.1

This has probably been mentioned, but if you have your heart set on a Mercedes of that age, there is a product recall out on some of those subframes due to corrosion. The E-Class and C-Class are most affected, but I've seen some SLKs and other models affected too. A main dealer will assess it and if found to be an inherent fault with the subframe, they will order and repair for free as a part of the recall. Be prepared to wait anything from 8 weeks to 6 months for the part to come in and at least two days of having the back end of the car ripped out. You will be without a car for the whole time. So it's always good to ask the seller if the recall has been done if it's MOT history looks like that, you can also call main dealers around where it's sold to find out if the subs been replaced.
If you book in for a free vehicle health check and state you want the subframe inspected you could probably get away with it for free, unless they're a particularly awful dealership in which case, if the corrosion isn't inherent to the subframe they will try and charge you a diagnostic hour (around the 200 pound mark for most places)
Not to dissuade you in any way, they are beautiful cars and can be a real pleasure to drive.1 -
Thank you for this!UniDebtStudent said:This has probably been mentioned, but if you have your heart set on a Mercedes of that age, there is a product recall out on some of those subframes due to corrosion. Funny you mention that I saw a really good condition all on auto trader well for the price anyway, when I put it in mot checker it says it’s part of a recall and to call Mercedes for a free fix! I then asked the seller about this and he reckons he isn’t sure what it is lol, not gonna buy it anyway but the price I just thought nah too good to be true here it is if your interested to look
