Hi. Please be kind, as I find technology very difficult to understand.
I am in a new-build house and am trying to connect a YouView box to my ( unsmart) tv. In the old house this box connected to the tv and the router somehow and it all worked fine. I used the Youview box to access catch up tv.
I am in a new-build house and am trying to connect a YouView box to my ( unsmart) tv. In the old house this box connected to the tv and the router somehow and it all worked fine. I used the Youview box to access catch up tv.
Now i have moved, the tv and YouView box are in the lounge. The wifi router is in the cupboard under the stairs, so i cant connect it to the tv and Youview box any more. I attach a photo of the available “holes” in the lounge.
The router instructions said to plug the router into the Open Reach box in the same cupboard ( see photo below).
Also, and i am unsure if this is relevant, when i moved in there was no tv aerial. A chap came round and fitted a smallbox ( see photo). He said i wouldnt need an aerial if i had this. At least i can watch live tv with said box.

I just want to connect my tv to the Youview box but i have no idea what i am doing, or what all these boxes are. All help gratefully received. Please assume i am your 93- year old neighbour, who just about understands what wifi is. Thank you in advance.

The bottom right square shaped socket with a lift up flap may be a network socket, try plugging your cable in that and then in the box as you did the router. If that doesn't work will it connect by wifi to the router?0

A quick google suggests that it won't connect by wifi and you'll need power line adaptors or a range extender with a network output socket to connect it. Try that bottom right socket first0

Hi teaselMay. Thanks for your help. When you say “plug your cable in that”, which cable do you mean, please?0

images aren't working, click this link, the cable that looks like that. The same one that you used to plug into the box and your router https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ethernet-cable/05572500

The sockets in you lounge are TV aerial, satellite cables 2, TV out , FM aerial, and Phone Extension socket. Nothing for internet there.
What youview box do you have?
You may need powerline adaptors or a range extender with ethernet ports
Edit the openreach box is a fibre “modem” what does the cable from the port1 go to, that will be your router probably.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy1 -
Agree it's likely to be a phone socket but in some houses it would be a network connection. The router being out of the way makes that more likely in my experience.0

That's a 'loft box' distribution unit, very unusual to see one in a new build as it comes from a bygone era of satellite dishes and TV / FM aerials in the loft. It's impossible to say if the lower-right connector is for phone or internet or if there's even any cable connected to from conduit in the wall.
TBH given the hotch-potch of BT MODEM, cable TV and (possible) wiring, getting an installer in would be your best option.

As it is a new-build house maybe ask the builder what has been installed and available?

Let’s deal with this in a step by step way.1)Connect the Youview box to the TV using the same cables that you used in your old property. Plug both the TV and the Youview box into the mains.2)The new aerial cable that the person installed , connect that to the Youview Box (I have some reservations about what’s been installed but it’s working that’s the main thing. )
3) All that’s left is to get then internet to the YouView box. To do this we’ll need more information. Please can you take a picture of the router. Please can you also take a picture of it in -situ under the stairs? So we can see what sockets you’ve got, it will help to move anything else out of the way.We can then help you connect the internet to the Youview box.0
