OOH just looked at it.  Amazon's sample includes most of the introduction, very interesting.  Her book of Tyrolean jumpers also looks really good
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Is anyone watching 'A stitch through time' (BBC). Similar to GBSB but there seems to be more of a design element, and the first episode honours the Irish linen industry.

A find at the second hand store eB. I paid £10.30 with the postage. I looked for similar ones new and they were £142 full price, on offer at £113.59.
They will make a lovely Christmas present.

Aren’t these exquisite? Irish shamrock, and linen being handspun, hand embroidered on a linen handkerchief. The back of the embroidery, shown here, is as perfect as the front. The picot edging is two strands of thread.

When was/is that on, @Cherryfudge?  I'll have to find it on iPlayer.

@PipneyJane I hope your friend is managing in the aftermath of such a traumatic event.   A lovely gift for her.

I've just popped in to mention a book just published - it is called 'Recreating Vintage 1940s Knitwear' by Linda Ivell. The introduction is a wonderful essay on wool and knitting during WWII and rationing.  There are 18 patterns covering a variety of stitches and techniques. I've put in a request to our library to add to stock.

Oohhhhh!!!! Excellent spot @alicef.  I've put it on my birthday book wishlist.

For anyone who wants to knit vintage sweaters and isn't afraid of adapting them to fit, may I recommend Trove?  Trove is a free-to-access/free-to-download archive run by the Australian National Library.  Virtually all newspapers or magazines that were published in Australia and are out of copyright have been scanned, catalogued and uploaded. My link is to their listings on Ravelry, however once viewing Trove, you can search for anything and, if you wish, you can read an entire newspaper or magazine.  Here is a direct link to Trove:  https://trove.nla.gov.au/

I have another spend to declare. A panic buy. I learned today that the ladies at Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Shop are retiring, so put in an order for 12x50g balls of their 4-ply.  It's 100% Wensleydale wool and they're the only place I know that sells it unadulterated.  (I have a sweater's worth of their DK already in the stash.)

I'm afraid I've no idea! DH spotted it on catch-up. It didn't grab my attention as much as GBSB, but it was interesting nonetheless, especially as there was a glimpse of the linen museum which we found so interesting during our brief visit.

@Nelliegrace, I am in awe of your ability to source fine linens.
