Thanks @PipneyJane, I think you are probably right about the other thin area, alas! But I will get him to try it on (probably not till the weekend as I want the leisure to look at it properly) and see if I can do as you suggest with turning up the tail. Failing that, I will see what I can scrounge of the good material as it's nice looking and drapes well - you never know what it might 'come in' for!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Hi @Cherryfudge, I think @PipneyJane's idea of folding it over might be be a good solution. If you do look at interfacing, I found out it also came in dark colours, not just white. I bought some, of this 8 years ago according to amazon.https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MWAWW2A?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details but it might rub up a bit, especially if he's over vigorous at tucking in!
Maybe @kiwisavings idea, with a hardwearung lumberjack style tail will be a new trend you can start!
Good luck.8 -
@Cherryfudge - I’m a lone voice saying I wouldn’t try iron-on interfacing…! It is unlikely to stay ironed-on with frequent washing, for one thing, and as it’s basically a sheet of plastic-coated stuff it could make him feel uncomfortably sweaty.
I think I would go at this from the other direction- why does he need to keep on tucking his shirt in? You can get grippy stuff that can be sewn on the inside of his trouser waistband which would help to hold his shirts in place. I would try that- the moleskins I bought from a proper gamekeepers’ suppliers had it inside the waist and it really did work!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

That's an interesting point about the interfacing, @Laura_Elsewhere. I've seen iron-on stuff come off too many times to disagree. The glue just isn't sufficient and the result is often itchy, but I admit I'd not applied that learning to this situation.
I'm pretty sure the tucking in is habitual, and he's quite hard on his clothes in other ways as well. Try as he might, he still wrecks socks and pulls holes under sweater sleeves. Perhaps I should just get him a suit of armour?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

To be fair, I was suggesting sewing down the interfacing as well as ironing it on but, yes, I agree that it is isn't the best solution.
@Cherryfudge, you have my sympathies. My husband has hard, thick soles to his feet and has been known to trim the edges with scissors(!), creating blade sharp bits which cut through handknitted socks like a knife. < grrr... > At least when he pounds the soles into holes through wear I can patch them, but when the edges are cut.... Arrgghhhhh.....

Perhaps punching holes through your clothes is a Man thing. My husband is prone to getting holes in his clothes too - in his case, he catches them on the buckle of his belt. The other thing he's prone to doing is punching holes in his underpants, between the waistband and the rest of the pants. Socks to date seem to be relatively immune.
And have you noticed that whenever there is a mucky job to be done, they insist in doing it in their best clothes, not the ones they wrecked during the last mucky job round!Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

I'm lucky in that regard. My DH has "garden clothes" and will change into them whenever he's doing a mucky job. (Probably comes from the years he spent working in a factory. It's part of the discipline.)

Mine always splits the side seam of his boxers down by the hem. I've ended up zigzagging over the seam which has kept them goingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8

Chiropodist appointment asap, high risk of giving himself an infection, @PipneyJane. It works for DH, who kept complaining that his feet hurt. It saves a lot of frustration, and money spent on socks and sheets.9
