I just need to work out a pattern @thriftmonster. I’m sure I’ve got one somewhere that I can botch. We’re in deepest, darkest Kent for the week, so it’ll have to wait until Sunday.
I have a spend to declare. We’ve spent today wandering around the Outlet Centre at Ashford and I couldn’t resist this t-shirt from Mountain Warehouse:
You can see why it was irresistible. 4 Coupons and £12.99 spent.
(DH bought 3 pairs of jeans from M&S, while his best friend purchased multiple items having lost 7 stone this year.)

Good morning All
Anyone up for a thrifty game? How about we play “Today, I Will Mostly Be Wearing”?
Today, I will mostly be wearing…. an ancient pair of Levi 501’s, purchased in a charity shop at least 20 years ago, a bluet-shirt bought in H&M in 2002, a pair of socks I knitted in September 2010 (thanks Ravelry), and a navy blue cashmere cardigan purchased in 2021.
What are you wearing?

Today I will mostly be wearing
- A new pair of Ecco sneakers - still within coupons for the year. Very pleased with these. Ecco shoes are so comfortable but most of them have white midsoles which are a disaster in winter. These are all navy. The nubuck will need a spray to protect it
- A three year old pair of M&S navy jeans
- A four year old navy v neck cashmere jumper from Uniqlo - it's cold!!
- A 10 year old white tee shirt
- A 20 year old "silk" scarf
- 5 year old navy socks
- unknown vintage undies - I buy a bra whenever Marks has one of its 20% off Sparks offers on bras and rotate them so not sure when this one was bought
I'll be going out later and I will be wearing a three year old Barbour with a 2 year old tan leather shoulder bag. I would have been wearing a 20 year old Barbour but I lost a lot of weight and it swamps me. I expect this one to see me out. ( It's green not navy!)
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8 -
And a splendid Rhapsody in Blue your outfit sounds, @PipneyJane!I am wearing my newly-made 1980s needlecord dress, over an eBay second-hand shirt in nice soft heavy cotton in a kind of pale-chestnut/apricot colour, with a green and cream striped cardigan knitted earlier this year by me, over warm cotton longstockings made by cutting the tops off Tesco school tights (size for 12-14 yrs!), and a pair of the well-made old-fashioned black cotton plimsoles I have kept clean for wearing indoors.2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
January (29): winter boots, green trainers, canvas swimming-shoes (15); t-shirt x2 (8); 3m cotton twill (6);
.
2025 second-hand acquisitions (no coupons): None thus far
.
2025 needlework- *Reverse-couponing*:11 coupons :
January: teddybear-lined velvet jacket (11) & hat (0); velvet sleep-mask (0);8 -
Today I am mostly wearing …
jeans, brand unknown (I’d have to take them off to check!) bought from a charity shop like all my jeans since I learned the economic cost of producing them.Heavy cotton long/sleevedT-shirt, label removed, also from a charity shop.Blue asymmetric scarf kindly knitted by my sister.Underwear, model’s own! 😄 (Bravissimo/M&S)Giesswein slippers, bought new on Vinted - deep enough to take my insoles, warm because they are wool and washable.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.7 -
Today I am wearing:
0re Norwegian jumper (bought in my 20s - so a LONG time ago)
D@mart thermal vest (can't remember when bought it)
Thermal leggings
Knitted socks
was wearing wellies but have changed into Gl3rup slippers.Fashion on the Ration 2025 41/666 -
Briefly popped outside, and wore my old Clark’s leather ankle boots, bought in 1991, re-soled by me a few years ago, have materials to re-heel later this autumn, but the reinforcing tape along the top edge of the leather was plastic-textile so it just shredded, leaving the edges unreinforced and vulnerable to tearing when pulling boots on…
Luckily, my 123-year-old Singer is quite happy to stitch boot-leather

I’d forgotten to mention that the only coat I bought with me on this trip is a 1960’s/1970’s-style black leather jacket, with patch pockets and a button-up front, purchased from Dorothy Perkins 20+ years ago. Even when I turn up the collar, it offers little protection from that biting wind. I didn’t think it’d be that cold! I caved today and bought a viscose scarf while we were at Canterbury Cathedral. Dark grey one side and poppy-red the other, it’s soft and warm. Feels more like wool than anything else. Made a considerable difference. Two coupons spent.
On my feet this week are either my ASICS leather trainers (purchased in 2021 from their website) or a pair of hard-soled, felted wool slippers purchased in Normandy in ? 2014. The slippers live in my suitcase and have clocked up a lot of travel miles.
As a side note, i wandered into M&S in Canterbury and have to report that not only are big shoulders back in fashion, along with Oxford-bags style trousers, but so are mini skirts.
