Thank you. For the postal application, how exactly do you fill in the cheque? I've never written a cheque in my life 😁Bob2000 said:SCOTTISH BUILDING SOCIETY ONLINE REGULAR SAVER.
I spoke earlier today to a member of staff over the phone (11.46am) and asked them if they're launching the online version of their postal/branch Regular Saver.
I was told there are no plans at the moment to do so.
Where it says Pay, put your name
On the next 2 lines put the amount you're paying in words, if it's doesn't include any pence then put only at the end, e.g. two hundred and fifty pounds only.
Put the full amount including pence in numbers where the £ sign is on the middle right of the cheque, e.g. 250-00
Add your signature on the line on the bottom right of the cheque.
If there's any space left on the sections of the cheque you've filled out put a horizontal line across any unused space.1 -
I just wrote my name. Nothing else, and the cheque was credited to my new SBS Reg. Saver acc.allegro120 said:

It's not your fault, you just announced what you were told by customer services representative. As we know, these can be misleading and can't be taken as facts.Bridlington1 said:

For those who were holding out for the online version to be launched please accept my apologies for the misinformation. It seems my sources are growing unreliable of late.

It seems it doesn't matter.....I wrote Scottish Building Society a/c My Name and my account is open and operating. So, take your pick, either will work.Digital_Payback said:

Agree 100% Bridlington1 is just passing on the info he has been given and credit to him. I personally did go for the postal version as I'm a "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" type of person.allegro120 said:

I put Scottish Building Society - My Name, per the instructions given by Nationwide who include a helpful info page on how to fill in a cheque. Or at least they did in 2013 when the book was issued. In practice just your name would work, but that’s less secure as it could then be paid in anywhere by anyone with the same name as you.luci said:

If you make a cheque out to the institution only, they may reject it if they have stated that the cheque should be made out to the account holder’s name.1 -
It's also possible that the person Bob2000 spoke to was wrong, and that Bridlington1's original source was right.allegro120 said:

Or that Scottish Building Society have changed their mind in the meantime, possibly because they got more applications than expected.
Either way, I'm in no hurry to open the account, postal or otherwise, if it becomes available online it'll be a bonus. Nobody needs to sue other forum members for giving incorrect information!2 -
Thanks for the info.Kim_13 said:

You don't have to but it makes it more secure if you include the institution's name as well e.g., it can't be paid into an account with Lloyds if it has, "Scottish Building Society a/c *your name*" written on it.allegro120 said:

I’d lean towards them having changed their mind, as another forumite was also told that it was planned when they took the opportunity to enquire having received a courtesy call. They wouldn’t have included a line in their T and Cs saying only one Regular Saver or e-Regular Saver (a product that doesn’t exist) had there been no intention at that time to launch one.clairec666 said:
