As a new customer I have opened a Hanley Econ. Online Smart Saver (Reg. Saver)
Can anyone tell me from experience long it takes to receive the User ID and get online access?
    Thanks.

New Customer too. Easy application online (PC), easy pay in via Debit card, debited next day from Santander. Easy partial registration for online access as part of application. So account open but not yet able to see online.

Minor grumbles .... have to wait for Welcome Pack which contains Online UserID. Mine arrived via email 2 days after application, which I did not expect (thought it would be by snail mail!). The email was encrypted and I could not open the attachment or successfully open the "view the message" button. I rang Hanley who said there should be a place to enter a code, which arrives via a second email. No second email and no place to enter the code, so the Welcome Pack email was a chocolate teapot  :)

Resolved by Hanley by promising to send paperwork by snail mail, as they won't release the UserID even after passing security by phone! Not a big problem for me, even if I want to make the 2nd payment on 1st Nov (3rd Nov?) as I've got my SC & Acc No and Reference No, which is needed as the bank details are generic. The Ref No is the application Ref No you get on application ... you get to keep that for the life of the account for pay-ins.
My opening journey was the same. Paid first payment by direct debit during opening procedure. At the end of the procedure, clear indication given that User ID would come by post. No sign of it, but it's early days. Surprised to hear that you got it by encrypted email (although inaccessible) 2 days after application. I haven't received any email since the time of online application. I will give a few more days for the promised letter to arrive before inquiring.
We may well be at the mercy of Royal Mail! I won't expect my Welcome Pack until late next week, given I only spoke to HEBS today. Having said that, and being known for my criticism of RM, I did get 2 letter deliveries this week, Monday and Thursday. The first time in many, many months that has happened. It's usually a great big bunch hitting the porch tiles once a week!  :/

Same here re RM. Massive pile of post might come once a week. So annoying.

The Emailed 'Welcome Pack' does not contain your UserID. A PDF in the pack confirms that the userID will arrive by post. I also received today (unsolicited) a one-time temporary password (by email) ... not much use though until the jokers at Royal Mail can eventually deliver a UID .

    Manchester Building Society (RS account)

To make a deposit, do I need to wait till I have activated my nominated account first?

    and their Account Number: 00000001
    · our sort code: 23-02-95
    -  my reference number <-- Which I have received

So no deposit till the letter arrives in the post?

You can make the deposit straight away. The account activation is just for withdrawing funds. I made the deposits immediately for both the Manchester RS and Newcastle RS and activated the nominated accounts for each when the respective letters arrived.

    That's great to know.
It has been over 24 hours since I have opened my account but for some reason, Manchester BS account details is not recognised by Nationwide so cannot make any payment (even when I click to say 'I accept the risk of sending money to xyz'.. . I will try again on Monday.

update: my Standing order is now showing up in the Nationwide Regular Payment / Standing order..

Hanley Economic BS 1Yr Online Smart Saver: Transfer To Date and Time and Credit Date

I opened my account without issue on 21/10 and did the full transfer, faster payment, at 17:46 on the same day.  After a phone call to HEBS I would have expected that transfer to be included in the 21/10 batch of transactions and provided by Lloyds to HEBS early on 22/10.  I don't know if it actually was.  Anyway the credit appeared on my account on 23/10 with the same credit date, 23/10.
So I think with any faster payment transfer to HEBS, best to do it (very) early in the day and do not expect it to be credited till the following day.  Which makes me think, should I do future transfers on the last day of the month ?  Also what would be the best way to manage 1st of month/end of month even on non banking days.
In the above situation, I lost 2 days at 4.55%A for £300.
Do card payments have the same credit date in the account as the date of transaction ?  I could do this from an overdraft, so I don't have the cash sitting in a current account.

Principality BS - Current Maturity Options

Has anyone been able to specify opening and funding a Christmas 2026 Regular Saver as a maturity option for any maturing RS ?  Is the Xmas 2026 RS listed online as a maturity option ? If so, what was the outcome ? Was a message generated ?  Did you transfer the remainder of cash externally ?

    Thanks in advance

This thread is from a couple of years ago, but the same issues raised here are discussed there.  Not sure if it is still appropriate.
