I had nearly forgotten that I sent my application (using Freepost) on October 9. Today, my opening deposit cheque got cashed so it can’t be long until I get my passbook etc in the snail mail. Hoping it will all be much faster from here ….. 🤞
My passbook was in this morning’s post. Cheque payment credited on the 10th - even though it was only cashed today 🙂
I am glad I sent off the postal application
Not sure whether I have online access yet. I will try tonight when I get home
My passbook arrived today, cheque was cashed on 14th, credited on 9th.
I didn't receive user ID, so no online access yet.I had email confirmation that I had registered
Informed that an activation code would arrive by post which it has done today (20/10) with my user ID and code
I now have online access to operate the RS account.1 -

Scottish BS my passbook arrived on Saturday, opening date of 14th, cheque cashed today. Annoyingly I've had to give a really old Natwest account as my nominated account, as it was the only cheque book I could find. I've tried to set up a new payee, now the search for a card reader (hopefully with enough charge in the battery) starts.Make £2025 in 2025

Just open it by post, folks.
A deal breaker for some might be the logistics and the cost of getting the application form, the use of a 🖊️, the cost of the envelope, and the need to walk to the nearest post box…………………1 -

My RS matures on 25th, no issues if i request to close early? Was going to request closure on 23rd and should receive on 25th.
I closed mine early a few weeks ago, but it has caused no end of trouble. The funds were sent with interest all well and promptly, BUT I have not been able to open a new savings account since, despite going through all the relevant ID steps successfully. My emails have been falling on deaf ears.
Also, for some infinite wisdom known only to Newcastle BS, my entire online account was shut down when I closed the RS, so I am unable to log in at all using my old USER ID, etc (I didn't have any other accounts with them, but other banks, BSs, have always kept my online access so I can, for instance, check previous transactions, etc).
I don't know if this will be the same for you, but if it helps in any way...
I'd suggest calling them, it's possible they can get back you online & saving with them.
Could be they've simply locked your account rather than fully got rid of it.
I thought Monmouthshire closed down everything of mine for ages, turns out they just restricted my access, so when I applied for online access etc as a new user or whatever it wasn't working because my profile was still active their end.0 -

You forget the b*ggeration factor of having to find a cheque book, and also signing your name. Can't honestly remember the last time I signed anything!Make £2025 in 2025

Nope, tried that, too. Seems they want none of my money after closing that one account, whether it be their 'regular' regular saver or their Monument RS. Ah well... other regular savers with other banks/BSs are available!
Found out the hard way for Aldermore. Closed their Reg Saver last year, when I needed the money. Came back a couple of months later to open a new Reg Saver, I had to go through entire registration process again.
Same with Principality BS, if you do not have an active account with them, Online logins dont work. Open a new account & re-register yourself.
I've spent the time getting accounts in the 1st place why would I want to spend all that time again getting everything back?.
Honestly people don't keep closing & switching everything as you could miss out on decent accounts, keep at least 1 account with a minimal amount in not only for loyalty but to keep your online profile.2 -

I might pop up to Scotland in a couple of weeks if it's still available and not been launched onlineI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

I'll open an uncompetitive regular saver to start a membership with an organisation I don't have a relationship with.
I need to pop up to Stafford in a couple of weeks to claim my £300 I've built up with their local building society. Never been to Stafford before, so will have to see if there's anything else in the local area of interestI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?2
