Hanley Economic BS 1 Year Branch Smart Saver
    6.5%
    £300max per month

not sure if this has been mentioned I’ve noticed it on moneyfacts
Nice account and no geographical restrictions - shame it's branch opening only. Cheeky postal application anyone? :D
  • I wonder how many grumbles we will see if Scottish BS decide there are enough applications for the account and the funding is anticipated sufficient for them to decide to make it NLA and not actually offer an online version?

Just open it by post, folks.

If made NLA be prepared for hundreds of pages filled with grumbles by people who wouldn't spend for a 2nd class stamp to apply by post missing out on an entire month at 6.5% that is variable and could be lowered any day. Popcorn ready
If it goes NLA, I for one will move over to the gardening forum for a few weeks till the dust settles.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

    Scottish BS

I had nearly forgotten that I sent my application (using Freepost) on October 9. Today, my opening deposit cheque got cashed so it can’t be long until I get my passbook etc in the snail mail. Hoping it will all be much faster from here ….. 🤞
    WOW!!

My passbook was in this morning’s post.  Cheque payment credited on the 10th - even though it was only cashed today 🙂

I am glad I sent off the postal application

Not sure whether I have online access yet. I will try tonight when I get home
    Scottish BS
My passbook arrived today, cheque was cashed on 14th, credited on 9th.

I didn't receive user ID, so no online access yet.

To get online access to my Scottish RS as a new customer I had to register for online banking on the Scottish BS website. (13/10)
I had email confirmation that I had registered
Informed that an activation code would arrive by post which it has done today (20/10) with my user ID and code
I now have online access to operate the RS account.

You first need to register on Scottish BS website, in order to receive the user id details

Scottish BS my passbook arrived on Saturday, opening date of 14th, cheque cashed today. Annoyingly I've had to give a really old Natwest account as my nominated account, as it was the only cheque book I could find. I've tried to set up a new payee, now the search for a card reader (hopefully with enough charge in the battery) starts.

No second class stamp is needed. Just use the Freepost address which can easily be googled and was posted a few times in this thread.

A deal breaker for some might be the logistics and the cost of getting the application form, the use of a 🖊️, the cost of the envelope, and the need to walk to the nearest post box…………………

    Newcastle BS
My RS matures on 25th, no issues if i request to close early? Was going to request closure on 23rd and should receive on 25th.
    Newcastle BS

I closed mine early a few weeks ago, but it has caused no end of trouble. The funds were sent with interest all well and promptly, BUT I have not been able to open a new savings account since, despite going through all the relevant ID steps successfully. My emails have been falling on deaf ears.

Also, for some infinite wisdom known only to Newcastle BS, my entire online account was shut down when I closed the RS, so I am unable to log in at all using my old USER ID, etc  (I didn't have any other accounts with them, but other banks, BSs, have always kept my online access so I can, for instance, check previous transactions, etc).

I don't know if this will be the same for you, but if it helps in any way...
I'm not surprised they appear to have shut everything down due to not having any other accounts with them, others do the same which is why you should have at least 1 account still open with them & others.

I'd suggest calling them, it's possible they can get back you online & saving with them.

Could be they've simply locked your account rather than fully got rid of it.

I thought Monmouthshire closed down everything of mine for ages, turns out they just restricted my access, so when I applied for online access etc as a new user or whatever it wasn't working because my profile was still active their end.

...also the non-zero risk of possibly needing to make a branch visit in person.  A long way to travel for some people.

You forget the b*ggeration factor of having to find a cheque book, and also signing your name. Can't honestly remember the last time I signed anything!
