    New account from Saffron!

Refer a Friend regular saver 8%

    £50 month / max £600.

Must complete a 'survey' providing the name of another Saffron customer who has 'referred' you (otherwise they say they will close your account down!)

I don’t understand this one - is it basically new customers only?

No, existing customers can apply (I just did & account opened), however you must be referred by an existing Saffron member. You must complete the friends details (panel on RHS of web page) before applying. If your spouse has an existing account, you can both refer each other.

I've just opened a Newcastle RS Issue 1 as a new customer. Sent across £200, is that likely to be credited today into May? Just wondering if I can send another £200 tomorrow.
Yes, Newcastle credits at weekends, so you are ok for another £200 tomorrow.  You should receive e-mail from Newcastle confirming your deposit in about 1 hour after sending it.

Specifically it has to be a Members Month saver the referrer has.

I presume this year's Members Month saver when it shows up will have a clause preventing you from having both, the intention being you can have one or the other. Whether the terms actually prevent this remains to be seen, as does how well they enforce it.

I'm waiting until Monday before I attempt it.

"You'll need to complete the Refer a Friend survey (to the right of this page), as well as applying for your account. If you do not complete the survey, your account will be closed."

So OH and I basically just have to open both a new E-Saver today to become customers and once open we refer each other for the reg saver and open that one today too. We fund the reg saver today and again tomorrow?

Sounds like a lot of faff for very little gain but still better to have £50 at 8% vs £50 at 5% at Cahoot.

    Would the above work?

You must have been referred by an existing member holding a Member’s Month Loyalty Saver.
So we just need name of 1 person holding a Members monthly loyalty saver and we can all be their friend?
Although I must stress the forum rules prohibit the exchanging of personal details so if you were to do this you would need to do this outside of this forum.
I'd also guess Saffron might invesitgate if the same name crops up a large number of times.

It feels like this account is intended for brand new/recent members who won't be eligible for the Member's Month product but know someone who is - in other words it widens eligibility for a loyalty-type RS product, without making it available to everyone.  It also feels like there is a missing condition that you can't apply for this product if you already have a Member's Month Loyalty Saver (or are eligible for one).  Perhaps they will do it the other way round and make holders of the Refer a Friend product ineligible for the forthcoming Member's Month product?
I imagine you can have the members month regular AND 1 of the other 2 regular saver products (same as last year) AND POSSIBLY the refer a friend regular.

    Need confirmation though.

Does seem a bit messy anyway.

Not having any accounts with Saffron nor do I know somebody personally who does. Is there any way of getting my hands on their regular saver(s) at all? E.g. opening a simple easy access account to become a member and move on from there?
Yes, do exactly that, I have 1 with £10 in, every month it earns like 3p in interest but the main purposes for me are for continued loyalty so can have regular savers, if I need to close a regular the funds can go to that, any maturing regulars funds can go there and it also stops them opening a very limiting maturity account that pays badly & you can't put money into providing you give them maturity instructions.

I think you might need to be a member for a year for their best regular savers if not all.
