thankfully I did not send the maximum deposit by cheque.
    Why? I did.
Probably because I'd open in person, or send a cheque, for the minimum amount to open, then send a test payment to check all is in order.
If you open with the maximum, it prevents you sending a test payment until next month
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

    Ah, I take your point.

    Thanks.

Melton seem prepared and well organised. I too sent application and cheque 2nd class on Saturday, account showing online yesterday, cheque drawn today, and was today able to set up standing order for the rest of the term with COP match. Existing customer and no further ID required. No confirmation letter yet.

I don't mind it being "view only" online as I intend it to run its full 30 month course

Sent my application off Thursday using an old prepaid envelope. Logged in today and saw the account so made a payment (CoP worked). Then got a phone call from them earlier today stating the account was open, but once I had explained I had made the payment they didn't need to confirm details via telephone, so they will send the passbook once the payment has cleared.

Melton have been a tad disappointing for me. Last week of Feb asked for address change. They sent one page form next week. I thought form is incomplete since there wasnt any place to sign, also at the bottom of the form it said see overleaf, there wasnt a overleaf. Called them, they agreed, signature page is missing. They sent it.
I sent over signed form on 7 Mar.
Meanwhile Adcock RS launched, I called on 13 Mar and requested form & asked about address change. I was assured it will be done in a day or so. I assumed address change will be done by the time form arrives. Sent filled form on 14 Mar. Saw online on 18 Mar, address wasnt yet updated & new Adcock not yet opened. Called again, to get address updated.
    I will continue to wait!

Strange that I am not getting a COP match when others are, especially as I used a high street bank on this occasion. But the test payment has arrived and account now topped up and ready for next month. When I did the cheque I just sent the amount I could spare from the account I had a chequebook for rather than shifting money beforehand.

I did personal and my name this time, after business and Melton Mowbray Building Society didn’t work with Issue 6.

Remember to wait a day after they open it, and remember to include all the letters in the reference field (3 letters, 7 numbers, 3 letters)

I've sent the application with £150 cheque on Monday, too early to expect the account to be opened, but I hope in will be done by the end of this week.  Cheques up to £500 are convenient for me because I have £500 overdraft with FD, they send notification when my balance goes below zero and I replace the funds at the nearest convenient time.

Has anyone experienced problems with accessing Melton's website recently?  I couldn't login from the beginning of this month. Had to phone them to check the arrival of funds to Saver 6.  I use Chrome and also have Safari, none of them worked.  Tried again just now - Chrome still doesn't get me there, but Safari worked.
