I have now had a letter confirming Dudley branch RS open, account number etc. If I make a payment before the end of today will it count as my December payment and work to my advantage or am I best to just start tomorrow?0

According to my records the cut off time for payments to be received in order to be treated as having been received the same day is 6pm so you might be able to sneak a December payment in if you're quick.s71hj said:I have now had a letter confirming Dudley branch RS open, account number etc. If I make a payment before the end of today will it count as my December payment and work to my advantage or am I best to just start tomorrow?0 -
Ok, thanks for that. It seems like all my bank/BSs are in your list except penrith and RBS. I think penrith would be better served on the 2nd, and l assume RBS would go through straight away being an internal transfer from the current account?allegro120 said:

I mostly do manually transfer.
1st Jan - BoS, Darlington, Dudley, Halifax, Lloyds, Manchester, Melton, Nationwide, Newcastle, Principality, Scottish, TSB, YBS.
2nd Jan - Chorley, Co-op, Furness, Hanley, Loughborough, Mansfield, Market Harborough, Monmouthshire, Progressive, Saffron, Skipton, Virgin.

Technically Lloyds Banking Group plc is registered as a Scottish company and it has a Scottish company number. It was part of HBOS' merger stipulations that its registered office and shareholder meetings needed to be in Edinburgh. The Lloyds Bank plc subsidiary appears to be registered as an English company whilst the Bank of Scotland plc subsidiary is registered as a Scottish company. Halifax is a division of BoS.flaneurs_lobster said:
No longer have contacts with Scottish stockbrokers but TBH there's not much that could be called a Scottish Bank or Building Society left - those that are registered in Scotland are probably just Scottish BS, TSB and....er....wmb194 said:
Whilst their branches will be closed in my experience with financial institutions and stockbrokers based in Scotland their online/behind the scenes processing follows the Bank Holidays in England and Wales.clairec666 said:Another niche bank holiday point - as 2nd January is also a bank holiday in Scotland, I'm assuming it's best to avoid transferring to Scottish-based banks and building societies until Monday?
Not actually going to affect me at all, I was just curious. It'll be a 4-day weekend north of the border.
E.g., Scottish BS: "Any online transfer requests after 2pm on Wednesday 24 December will be processed on Monday 29 December, and transfer requests after 2pm on 31 December will be processed on Friday 2 January."
https://www.scottishbs.co.uk/our-locations/
Those two process payments as having been received on their actual date so no problems.
BoS and RBS are both registered with Head Offices in Edinburgh but are, of course, parts of larger English-based Groups.

I don't know specifically but if withdrawals are being processed I'm guessing that deposits should be as well. I'm going to make my Scottish BS RS deposit in 02/01, I think it'll be fine.allegro120 said:

RBS is not on my list because I'm already up to £5k, so just collecting interest. But I used to feed it by internal transfer and always avoided weekends. They don't credit deposits at weekends, leave RBS for the 2nd Jan.Bob2000 said:

It's not always the same with BSs, some of them have different systems for receiving deposits and processing withdrawals. I'll do my deposit tomorrow to see how soon it will be visible and the date it is credited. I may loose one day's interest on £250, but it will be good to see and record how it works with Scottish BS.wmb194 said:

Previously I was only including accounts where the interest rate is 4.4% or better, or 4.2% if the account has favourable conditions (e.g. you can pay in £500 per month or more, the interest rate is fixed, or if the account matures after at least 2 years).
After reviewing the wider savings landscape over the last couple of months I have chosen to reduce the thresholds for regular savers to be included on the main Regular Savers List.
I am now including accounts where the interest rate is 4.15% or better, or 3.95% if the account has favourable conditions (e.g. you can pay in £500 per month or more, the interest rate is fixed, or if the account matures after at least 2 years).I have now added the following regular savers as they have interest rates that now meet these new thresholds:
