I emailed the documents to open a regular savings account with the Scottish Building Society, but they are asking me to send a cheque by post to open it.
The opening deposit for the account must be made within 14 days, by cheque made payable to yourself as this is treated as a postal application.
How did you guys open this RS?

I sent off the form with the necessary identity documents by email, as soon as I'd sent off the application form I posted a cheque to their freepost address the same day with a note saying I'd sent the application form by email (gave the exact date and time the email was sent as well as some details to help them identify me). Account was opened a week later.elkyfer said:I emailed the documents to open a regular savings account with the Scottish Building Society, but they are asking me to send a cheque by post to open it.

Everything in one envelope in my case. Worked very smoothly. Using the freepost code.elkyfer said:I emailed the documents to open a regular savings account with the Scottish Building Society, but they are asking me to send a cheque by post to open it.

In fairness to SBS this is what the application form says to do.elkyfer said:I emailed the documents to open a regular savings account with the Scottish Building Society, but they are asking me to send a cheque by post to open it.3 -
Thank you, I am gonna try to get a cheque.1

It says that for a postal application, but in fairness I can’t see anything on the form that says that an emailed application is treated as a postal application; this was explained to applicants after they had sent their application (other forumites had the same experience soon after the account launched.)happybagger said:

It isn’t an unreasonable assumption that emailing an application would mean bypassing the need to send anything by post. For those who don’t have a chequebook and weren’t local, it would come across as the method by which they could open an account. I do think they should make it clearer that an emailed application still means a cheque by post, otherwise the application might lapse before a customer receives a chequebook in the post. If it were clearer, SBS would save their own time not processing applications that won’t be funded, and customers could make sure they had a chequebook in their hands before submitting the application.2 -
