A similar thing happened to me once with Virgin. A customer service person e-mailed me a statement attached to an encrypted e-mail and she said she would stay on the line to give me the password to open it, but it just went straight into my in-box and I was able to see the message and open the attachment as I normally would. She seemed a bit surprised that happened and could not really explain why.masonic said:
As you are using an Outlook email account, the difference may be that you've received the encrypted message directly into your inbox rather than a link being sent to the HEBS secure email system. But as you have not set up a S/MIME identity, you don't have the ability to send encrypted emails. Though I doubt you are alone in using Outlook as your email provider, so it is a bit odd that you seem to be alone in receiving the encrypted email directly.fuzzzzy said:
I actually just replied to the encrypted e-mail today to say that I would not be going ahead with my application and to request they return my debit card payment.HHUK said:

I have had the same request. If you hit reply within the message itself (after signing in with passcode), it states it is still encrypted and you can attach your documents
I tried to reply directly from the encrypted message (after signing in with the passcode) but despite several attempts was unable to attach the files saved on my PC. Not something that is normally an issue when using my usual email service.
( I have a banner above the outlook e-mail to say it is encrypted but can see the message as normal without actually having to sign into anything. I guess the differences are due to different e-mail services?)
But the e-mail reply won't send. Obviously this must be something to do with encryption stopping me replying.
I will obviously give them a ring but wondered if someone more technically savvy can explain what is happening in simple terms in case I should encounter receiving encrypted e-mails again.0 -
The Ts&Cs are an obvious cut and paste from a fixed term bond.flaneurs_lobster said:

Pretty poor that punters can spot this stuff but PrinBS haven't got a couple of eyeballs to proof this financial, legal, regulated information before they publish it.

There seems to be a theme here with those who have previously closed a HEBS account experiencing the most issues opening the new RS.1

That's why I always keep a relationship open with a token £1I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?2

For me it's also the fact that many offer loyalty regular savers, e.g. Coventry, Saffron, YBS, Skipton, Cambridge etc.surreysaver said:That's why I always keep a relationship open with a token £1
Worth noting with YBS people also have been known to have issues if they close their oldest YBS account even if they've retained continuous membership throughout so I tend to retain my oldest accounts where possible.3 -
This is your heads up that the online version of Scottish BS RS will probably be launching tomorrow, as I have given up waiting and sent my postal application today.

@refluxer, I closed my RS with them about a year ago but like you still had online access. I opened it as a “new customer” online to start with, but in the application form there is a question asking if you are an existing customer and asking for your account number. I put in my old RS account number even though it was closed. My application went through perfectly and didn’t have to fill out any security questions etc. When I checked the Hanley app straight after it was already showing. Hope this helps.refluxer said:
I'm still unable to open the account. I closed my only Hanley Eco BS account (a Branch Saver) a couple of months ago but still have access to online banking, so was hoping I could apply from there and avoid having to prove my ID again.Rudyson said:refluxer said:Just tried to open the Hanley Eco BS 1 Year Online Smart Saver and it looks like they might have disabled online applications for now - I get the same message either while applying through online banking (as an existing customer) or from their homepage (as a new customer would). The application is currently unavailable.
We are currently experiencing some problems and are unable to continue with your application. Please try again later.
I've just opened one in the last half hour with no problem.
I guess it's possible that they'll allow you to access online banking for a while in order to obtain documents or statements for old accounts, but not allow you to open new accounts ?
If anyone is in a similar position (can access online banking but has no open/active accounts) and has been able to open this RS account then please let me know, otherwise I'll give it a miss.3 -
When i applied, as a new customer (never having any Hanley accounts before), never received any email with temporary password. Waiting on letter in post with user IDmon3ysav3r said:When applying for The Hanley Economic BS One Year Online Smart Saver (TAR10) Reg Saver as a new customer it asked me to set up a password and memorable info. I have now received an email with a temporary system-generated password, still waiting for a letter, which the email says will contain a temporary User ID. Rather strange to have been asked to create a password at sign up and not use it.0 -
Maybe there is some kind of verification between the device you are using and the outlook account i.e. you have linked the two and that means it trusts it and immediately shows it. It doesnt explain why you cant attach though.masonic said:

I have you tried opening the email on another device? e.g. your phone and randomly attaching something on there to see if it works.1 -
When I re-established my membership at HEBS with their Branch Saver account, obviously I opened it in branch, I told them I was a previous customer (about 3 years before) and they found me straight away, and simply confirmed the details.Kim_13 said:There seems to be a theme here with those who have previously closed a HEBS account experiencing the most issues opening the new RS.
This isn't as easy when opening online to make that point, though @RosieRooBear above says putting in your old details works0
