Joining Zen

My TalkTalk contract ends on 24th Jan 2025 and I rang to give notice today (I'm thinking now that was a mistake) and to confirm there would'nt be any Early Termination charges, so I think they will now bill me until 27th Jan.

I don't want to be paying two ISP's for too long a period of time. Does anyone know if the online application form allows you to indicate approximately when you want the service to start or am I best calling them tomorrow?

    When you move to most new suppliers they take care of the move and you just need to pick an install date after the 24th January.

    No need to punish yourself speaking to TalkTalk.

    I don’t think you made a mistake. When I switched to Zen they told me they would contact my previous supplier, but they didn’t, and I ended up paying both for a month.

    By calling TT to give notice rather than letting Zen serve notice on your behalf, you may get a break in service, generally a ‘line’ that has a cease order against it ( that’s what you asked TT to do ) can’t be taken over, the cease has to complete then Zen can provide service after that , if you had just let Zen do the notification there isn’t a break in service …..that assumes it’s the same network being used
  • A bit off-topic but when TalkTalk ask for the router back, make sure you keep the proof of postage. Someone I know recently left TT and despite sending the router back in their provided bag, was billed £75 for "not" sending it back.

    Thanks to all for the replies.

    I've done it (ordered Zen Internet) now.

    Here's a guide for others;

    1. By all means check there won't be any Early Termination charges with your current provider but DON'T give notice to cancel. They may bill you up to the end of 30 days - I'll report back on here what happens to me

    2. The Zen form DOES ask you when you would like your contract to start (not guaranteed). Your date needs to be a working day i.e. they can't set up at weekends. I had to choose Fri 24th Jan as Mon 27th Jan might be too late.

    3. If you know someone who uses Zen get them to refer you - you both get a £25 voucher. We use Zen at work, so I used them to set up a referral. Think I googled Zen affiliate link, referral was the 2nd result.

    Are these Upload speeds they've sent me the wrong way round?

    Minimum upload speed: 14.8 Mb/s

    This is the minimum speed that your service will be able to upload content to the internet. This is not a guaranteed speed.

    Max download speed: 37.2 Mb/s
    Max upload: 9.3 Mb/s

    The maximum speeds are the speeds of which the top 20% of lines like yours can receive on the Zen network.
