Is it now impossible to edit and/or delete your own post?

Options
In the past there used to be a 'gear' button for this, sometimes invisible, but now I cannot find it.
Or is it some restriction for new members only?

No longer a gear button however, it's circle with 3 dots inside.

I can see the circle with three dots but only have the option to edit but not delete the post?

Thank you, any idea why this is the case? What if someone has second thoughts/regrets about posting something or wants to remove a post for legal or other reasons?

The rationale will be because it's more disruptive to remove the original post. If there's a good reason then you can ask the moderators to remove it. This forum isn't unique in following this sort of principle.

Deleting posts is bad etiquette on forums. Should only be allowed by moderators.

Also editing the post to say "removed" or similar is also bad etiquette.
Even more so if you don't get the answers you want...
