Have you not seen the various news stories about "The Lyca Family"?
MSE rules rightly ban members from calling for boycotts of particular companies, but it seems some have decided that perhaps their mobile communication needs might be better met elsewhere.2 -
I hadn’t heard about their troubles till I searched after receiving this email, pity I committed to a 24 month contract 🙄flaneurs_lobster said:

No, I’ve not received any letter and yes, I have checked a couple of credit reference files and they seem all clear at the moment.marcia_ said:

Well if you received this email and there was no "click on this link" type thing in it then it at least sounds legit. But also incompetent if they are apologising for something that hasn't happened. Makes me wonder if their data is secure or even well managed.
You might respond to them and say that given the situation they either need to release you from your contract with them and/or pay for you to have enhanced credit reporting for the next 2 years.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I did ask but they are insisting I’ll need to pay a cancellation charge. With 18 months left of a £13 a month contract it’s not a price I’d want to pay.Brie said:Well if you received this email and there was no "click on this link" type thing in it then it at least sounds legit. Given the two data breaches and the still unresolved issue of people’s cards being charged by related companies then in my opinion they aren’t a secure service to use.Brie said:Well if you received this email and there was no "click on this link" type thing in it then it at least sounds legit. Totally agree with you. And sending out "we're sorry for the debt collector letters we sent you" emails to people who haven't been sent debt collection letters is another indicator of just how pisspoor they are.PHK said:

Unfortunately it does seem that just being a crap company to do business with is not sufficient grounds to break a contract without penalty.2 -
Lyca are looking to shed most of the UK staff and appear to be in dispute with HMRC over huge unpaid bills.flaneurs_lobster said:Have you not seen the various news stories about "The Lyca Family"?
Unfortunately that doesn’t mean they will be likely to allow customers to leave early, penalty free… more likely the opposite as they need the money!3
