Lake District

Money saving tip if you find the Lake District very expensive. We wanted to go there and have a holiday cottage just before Covid. Having been there a few times we were horrified to find out how expensive it had become. We found somewhere in the Eden Valley, on the other side of the M6 but close enough to visit the Lakes and it was much cheaper.0

Best of many worlds. We have the Northern Pennines just a few miles to the east of us and the Lake District national park a couple of miles to the west. We're within shouting distance of Northumberland for Hadrian's Wall and getting over the border for the Southern Uplands of Scotland is easy too.West Cumbria is lovely too- again, prices drop significantly once you're west of the National Park. The Solway Coast is to die for....(As you can tell, we're rather fond of Cumbria

My first trip to the Lakes was in 1971. It was so much quieter back then1 -

Yes, it's much busier now than it was when we were first regularly visiting Cumbria together (back in the early 90's- we permanently relocated here in 2019). The Covid years made a difference too (as did the Brexit effect). Thankfully, there are plenty of places where you can escape the crowds if you know about them....
