I have rang them twice, once explaining that I was going to buy yesterday but they wouldn't accept solo so had to wait and transfer money to visa account before I could pay and a second time, giving them the order number and postcode of a fellow MSEr. Both times I was told no go and I had to pay with delivery. Gutted that I didn't get this and I curse my stupid solo card! Unfortunately I don't have the extra £60 to buy it at the new price otherwise I would as having a 2hr search today online showed me that even with the £60 delivery cost it's still a good price for the spec.
Couldn't find any free delivery codes either.

Consider holding off for a while as Dell are always adjusting their offers and so it might come about as competitively again.

Or, you could try phoning them again and you may just get someone a bit more affable.

I believe this was a misprice. The Vostro machine is a business laptop and there was no free delivery promotion promotion that matched it so it seems that the product had been wrongly set up. I went through the spec'ing process for a friend through to checkout.

Wait for the next Dell misprice... though they seem to be few and far between these days compared to early last year.

I called Dell and dropped the battery to the basic one and it comes out at £293 including delivery. Swapping to an Athlon took it to £329.

I tried to get a better price but he said he couldn't and he asked his manager. He offered to drop the delivery charge if I took 3 year support but I declined.

I'll just have to be a bit quicker next time!

Hiya everyone- first ever post for me but I hope it is worth sharing

I strongly suggest that you persevere with this deal by trying to order over the phone. I ordered one online yesterday and Dell then cancelled my order due to authorisation issues with my card. My first three attempts to re-order at the original price today did not work. On attempt four, after some persistent negotiation, I have just ordered one over the phone for the original price, plus I got the guy to significantly drop the price of a better wireless card and memory upgrade. Eventually, I got an extra 1024 Mb of RAM and a 1490 wireless card for an extra £40- total price of £274 with all the upgrades

    Don't give up!
